​SK Telecom launches 4.8Gbps Wi-Fi

The company said that SK Telecom has launched a Wi-Fi service that supports data transfer rates of up to 4.8 Gbps.

Wi-Fi products named T Wi-Fi AX are based on the 802.11.ax standard and support speeds up to 1.3 Gbps with nearly four times the speed of 802.11 ac Wave 1 released in 2013 .

Currently, smartphones on the market do not have 802.11.ax chips. Therefore, its speed does not exceed 1 Gbps.

Next year, SK Telecom said better hardware, probably a flagship handset with 802.11.ax chips will be on sale and will benefit from maximum acceleration.

The Wi-Fi product uses four antennas, has a bandwidth of 160 MHz, and operates in the frequency band of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.

SK Telecom plans to set Wi-Fi in the metropolitan area of ​​Seoul and expand its deployment in the future. Also equipped with OFDMA technology and multi-user multi-user technology (MU-MIMO).

In October last year, mobile operators developed this technology, Korean authorities approved the access point.

The country also plans to deploy an Internet connection of 10 Gbps per year.

SK Telecom also announced a favorable reception for 5G including Samsung, Ericsson, Nokia, but Huawei has not announced.
