Respawn Entertainment has confirmed that Apex Legends Season 5 will begin on May 12, one week later than originally scheduled. The developer confirmed the date through an official blog post in which the Design Director, Jason McCord, also describes the team’s plans for wrapping up Season 4 with a brand new Limited-Time Mode.
According to McCord, the decision to slightly reverse the start date of Season 5 was driven by the desire to give Apex Legends players a little more time to “sharpen out their Battle Pass or try to reach that next level of Ranked”. That extra week will also make the last two-week event of Season 4 possible: Battle Armor. The Battle Armor event starts on April 28th and lasts until May 12th, when season 4 gives way to season 5.
Battle Armor will take place on the game’s World’s Edge map with rotations taking place every few days, with players limited to only one type of armor. McCord states that in this mode each player will fall in matches with the same type of armor and a P2020 and will find that, apart from Shield Cells and batteries, no other type of armor will spawn.
When the event starts on April 28, participants will be limited to White Armor. On May 2, the allowed armor will upgrade to Blue and then to Purple on May 6. Finally, on May 9th, players will be limited to the recently introduced Evo armor – which will become stronger with damage equipment – until the end of the event and season 5 starts on May 12th.
McCord says that this event is only one-way Respawn plans to experiment with the “core gameplay” of the game, adding that it is “excited to introduce even more twists and turns in Season 5 and beyond”.
Beyond this tease, it’s not yet entirely clear what Season 5 means to the players. New seasons usually mean card changes and a new Legend, but Respawn has yet to officially confirm what it has up its sleeve. Considering the run-up to Apex Legends’ Season 4 was quite entertaining and surprising, we’re sure players are looking forward to seeing things unfold in the coming weeks.
