Surface Duo And Neo May Not Support 5G At Launch

Surface Duo And Neo May Not Support 5G At Launch

Microsoft is not ready to engage in 5G support for its future Duo foldable smartphone and Neo tablet. At a conference in Berlin on October 21st, Microsoft’s chief operating officer, Panos Panay, was asked whether the two devices would support 5G.

In response, Panay said Microsoft was planning an ambitious roadmap in which 5G devices would be marketed. However, it would not confirm if this includes the Duo and Neo when they launch in late 2020. At present, it only seems that the pair of devices will support advanced LTE. Surface Neo and Surface Duo may initially be shipped with support for 4G LTE, and a version supporting 5G may be released later.

In the past, Microsoft had previously released Surface versions without support for 4G LTE, and later versions with support for 4G LTE. It would not be an unprecedented move. This is, however, only a hypothesis at this stage.
