Being Gay ‘Is God’s Greatest Gift To Me’ – Tim Cook

Apple CEO Tim Cook said he had made the decision to openly cheer up Fortune 500's first CEO to inspire the children who wrote to him, not as a way to bring forth more CEOs. Cook, who came out in public in 2014, said in an interview with CNN today that he was content with his decision to speak openly about his sexuality, even though he was a private person. He explained that he had decided to go public because children had written to tell them that they were victims of intimidation or abuse because of their sexual orientation.

"I was public because I started getting kids online and I was gay," Tim Cook told CNN's Christiane Amanpour. Cook sees homosexuality as "God's greatest gift to me," he said. "I am very proud of it."

Tim Cook's sexual orientation was widely speculated even before he became Apple's CEO. Although he was named CEO on August 24, 2011, Cook did not disclose the details of his sexual orientation until October 30, 2014. Other big business CEOs have appeared by now, but Mr. Cook said it was not even in his mind. back then.

"I've learned what it's like to be a minority, and the feeling of being in a minority gives you a certain empathy for other people who are not in the majority." Cook told CNN.

Tim Cook's full interview will air at 20:00 on CNN International and at 23:00 CET in New York.
