Top 10 Best Gaming Laptops Of 2018

Update - 2018.08.12

Compsmag provides you the itemizing of Top 10 Best Gaming Laptops 2018. Time to time we use to update the listing of Top 10 Best Gaming Laptops 2018.

In the past, the gaming laptops were not that different from the other best laptops – as long as they had a Core i7 processor, 8GB of RAM and discrete graphics, it was the best gaming notebook. They were so and far between that they did not care if they were good or not.

However, these days, the best laptops for games are very different from the gaming laptops of the past. They can run on Windows 10, but you can take an ultra-thin laptop that uses Nvidia Max-Q technology, or you can find a mighty, sickly beast that can easily replace your gaming desktop. Now that the new Razer Blade is out, and the producers are showing all the new features of the Computex 2018, we are going to see what the next gaming laptops will be like.

Gaming Laptops are special because of the performance they handle to pack in a small body. You not only have to think how they perform now, however, ensure they’re future-proofed for at least a couple of years. Unlike desktop PCs, you can’t simply or cheaply improve the specification of a gaming laptop. Paying for that extra efficiency now’s often sensible in the long term.

So if you are looking for a notebook that you can use to work or play, or if you want a juggernaut of traditional games, we have the recommendations you are looking for. And since we have tested, reviewed and classified all the best gaming laptops, we can be sure to get specifically what you need here on this list.

For many who search a new Gaming Laptop, you’ve come to the perfect place. Listed under are our selections for the best Gaming Laptops presently obtainable as recommend on by the Compsmag staff.

Things To Consider Before Buying a Gaming Laptop

1GPU

The primary attribute that runs or defines a gaming laptop is its graphics processing unit. The commanding player on the field is Nvidia, which produces discrete cards based on its Pascal Series 10 microarchitecture, which offers performances close to those that can be expected from a PC with the same card. However, laptops using older generation GTX 900 cards are still available for purchase and will likely be available while stocks last in the coming months. Nvidia’s main competitor, AMD, sees far fewer laptops using its graphics technology. A handful of laptops now offers AMD’s latest Radeon Vega cards, often as an alternative of a Nvidia-based SKU or, more rarely, an Intel CPU.

2CPU

The CPU is the heart of a PC and, in max gaming laptops, you will find an Intel Core i5 or i7 7th generation quad-core processor based on the Kaby Lake chipset. The new 8th-generation Intel “Coffee Lake” processors have just been launched on laptops so that you can predict them in the future. Coffee Lake chips include two additional cores, which increase overall speed and significantly improve the performance of multithreaded tasks, but the game potential is relatively small.

3Display

As for the size of the display, a 15-inch screen is a perfect place for a gaming laptop. You can buy larger 17-inch screens, but this can increase weight over 5 pounds. We have seen 12-pound “notebooks” in the gaming industry that will undoubtedly add to your backpack. We suggest at least one Full HD screen (resolution 1920 x 1080). Larger screens can offer higher resolutions than 1080p but choose wisely, as the QHD + resolution (3200 for 1800) will increase the final cost twice: first for the panel and then for the high-quality graphics card for guide him.

4Storage

You should pick a laptop with an SSD as prices have fallen significantly in recent years. SSDs accelerate the startup, the alarm and the time needed to run a game and load a new level. So you have to have a gaming laptop with an SSD, but make sure you have set up correctly. A small SSD (128 GB to 256 GB) with a 500 GB hard drive with 1 TB is a good start if you also download occasional videos on the Internet. Larger SSDs are available (512 GB or more), but choosing one will increase the purchase price of the gaming platform exponentially.

5RAM

Before we forget, let’s talk about RAM. Look for a laptop with 8 GB of RAM. This will give you a little edge between your game window and your email application, but we will continue to look for game suggestions when you are not playing because every window of the browser you open will eat your RAM. For a high-end system, we recommend 16 GB so you can have multiple gaming sessions simultaneously, your email application, numerous websites, a webcam program and your video streaming program. A mid-range gaming computer should work properly with 8 GB of memory, but keep in mind that many new laptops are not scalable. You could be held back with the amount of RAM you place.

6Price

The gaming systems have high-end components that ordinary mainstream notebooks, so their costs will be higher as a result. The best low-budget gaming laptops start at $ 800 and can be around $ 1,250. For this, you get a laptop that can play games with a resolution of 1,366 x 768 on high-quality graphics settings or with Full HD resolution (1080p) with reduced detail. Mid-range systems offer decent gameplay with higher settings on a 1080p screen, VR headset support, and costs varying from $ 1,250 to $ 2,500. The high-end systems provide a gaming experience of 1080p with maximum graphics details, 4K or VR resolutions, additional monitors, fast components such as 512 GB PCIe SSDs and prizes of over $ 2500. Many also add dual graphics processors, 3K displays at 4K, high-capacity SSD, and optional ultra-efficient cooling fans.

7Additional Features

Since high-end components seem to run out of battery life, do not think to take these gaming rigs too far from a charging point. The advanced ports like USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 are now advantageous and will be later, but look for almost 2 USB 3.0 ports to connect a mouse and a hard disk external to your recorded multimedia folders. Other video ports, such as HDMI or Mini DisplayPort, will be useful if you want to play on an external display but are not necessary if the laptop screen is large enough. Finally, if you are a professional player looking to buy a gaming laptop that can keep you competitive, prepare to prepare your lunches for a while. This type of high-end performance can only come from high-end components, particularly in a portable package, and they are not cheap.

Finally, if you are an avid gamer looking to buy a laptop that can keep you aggressive, make sure that this type of high-end performance can only be accomplished by high-end components, especially in a portable package and are not cheap at all. So, to help you choose the best gaming laptops of your generation, here we are with our choices for the best gaming laptops.

The Alienware AW17R4 offers excellent gaming performance, a comfortable keyboard, and attractive design, but low-end configurations suffer from dimmed screens and slow storage. Still, the Alienware AW17R4 remains the gaming notebook to beat.

The Alienware maintain their classic and corner cabinets from last year, but many things have changed inside. The Alienware 17 R4 now features a 7th generation Intel “Kaby Lake” and Nvidia GTX 1070 or 1080 GPUs perfect for virtual reality. The laptop also has Tobii Eye Tracking to play with your peepers. If you can pay money on one of its most expensive configurations, then the Alienware 17 is the 17-inch mobile gaming platform to beat.

The angular brand design of Alienware is on full display with this 17-inch laptop. The appearance of the gray-gray spaceship has not changed much in recent years: it is always aggressive and dominant, with its corners and its two-tone mixture of gray and black, but it is also chic and refined, with solid aluminum construction and a touch of plastic.

Doors surround the laptop, so there is plenty of space for expansion. On the right side, there is a single USB 3.0 port and some vents, while on the left are the Noble lock slot, a USB Type-C port, a USB 3.0 port, a microphone/headphone jack. There’s even more in the back: an Ethernet jack, a mini DisplayPort, an HDMI output, a power jack, a Thunderbolt 3 port and a connection for the Alienware Graphics Amp, which allows you to connect a GPU to an external office for 4K and VR games.

The Alienware 17 is available with several 17.3-inch display panels with resolutions ranging from 1080p to 4K. The cheapest Alienware 17 and its Nvidia GTX 1070 GPU with 8 GB of VRAM is quite powerful, and the GTX 1080 version is even more powerful. With both configurations, you’ll be able to play intense games with high settings and also achieve consistent VR performance. With the GTX 1080, I set all the graphics parameters as high as possible, and I played at 2560 x 1440p and 120 Hz: the best this system could offer.

The 17-inch MSI GT75 Titan uses the kitchen sink approach with great success, with a mighty Intel 8th Gen overclockable processor and a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 GPU with an incredibly fast SSD. And if that’s not enough to arouse your interest, there’s the incredibly vivid 1920×1080 screen and first-class speakers, making Titan an undeniable gaming niche.

Most of the interior of the laptop is made of brushed aluminum, but a soft material is the palm rest. The colorful keyboard flickers with anticipation, highlighting the boomerang power button hidden in a divot in the upper right corner. Directly below, button seats for MSI Dragon Center, Fan Speed, XSplit Gamecaster and SteelSeries Engine. The bottom of the system is nothing but a black magnesium alloy with noticeable red-blooded mouths, a bit like a technophile eagle.

With such an extensive system, you know you have many doors. On the right, there is a pair of USB 3.0 ports with a 4-in-1 card reader and a secure lock slot. Three additional USB 3.0 ports are available on the left, with headphone, microphone, audio input and S / PDIF jacks. On the back, you have an HDMI 2.0, a mini DisplayPort, Thunderbolt 3, Ethernet and a power outlet.

The colors of this 17.3-inch 1080p screen are incredible. MSI is the latest notebook manufacturer to join the Intel Coffee Lake Party. Titan is equipped with an Intel Core i9-8950HK 2.9GHz 8th generation processor with six cores and 32GB of RAM under the hood. In fact, the processor was overclocked out of the box with a clock speed of 4.3 GHz. I threw everything but the processor’s kitchen sink to slow it down. I streamed Dear White People on Netflix while running a full system scan with 32 tabs open in Google Chrome, many of which used a Twitch feed or YouTube video, but Titan did it all.

One way or another, the Razer always manages to keep its edges as thin as the razor while returning to some of the country’s most powerful specs. With the latest Razer Blade Pro, the company added an overclocked Intel i7 processor while maintaining the Nvidia GTX 1080 GPU, a stunning 4K Nvidia G-Sync display and ultra-discrete patented mechanical keys. If that were not enough, Slim Stunner is also the first mobile device with THX audio certification. Or we can say one of the best in the industry has improved.

There’s just something in a Razer laptop that makes your wrist vibrate when you see it. Built-in black CNC aluminum, Blade Pro follows the Razer design in a T, only on a larger scale. The center of the laptop lid is slightly recessed, creating a pair of thin ridges that help accentuate the shimmering three-headed emerald snake emblem.

The inside of the system offers more ebony sheet, with the center of the plate that houses the standard keyboard and the reasonably large touchpad in a slightly recessed compartment. A power button is located at the top center of the device; you dare to insist. Blade Pro is not loaded with ports like other desktop replacements, but what it does is vital to multi-screen configurations and virtual reality. On the right are a USB 3.0 port, a card reader, Thunderbolt 3, an HDMI 2.0 port and a Kensington security lock slot. There are two more USB 3.0 ports on the left with an Ethernet port (Gigabit), a headphone jack and a proprietary power jack.

Looking at the Pro Blade’s 4K panel is like looking into a dream of color fever. The Blade Pro officially plays with older kids, moving from the latest Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor to an Intel Core i7-7820HK processor clocked at 2.9 GHz with 32 GB of RAM. The 1080p model also benefited from an Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor clocked at 2.8 GHz with 16 GB of RAM. So, none of my laptops had problems with running some Twitch feeds, with TweetDeck, Slack, and YouTube on the remaining 20 Chrome tabs while the system ran a full virus scan.

When you want a gaming laptop with genuinely exotic performance and a multitude of customization options, do not accept any replacement. The company has reorganized its Eon17-X to accommodate a ridiculously powerful Intel 8th-Gen desktop processor, which sounds surprisingly well with the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 GPU, PCIe SSD and G-Sync displays populating the considerable chassis. As if this were not enough, the laptop’s CPU and GPU are overloaded. But all this power and personalization are not cheap.

The Eon17-X is like someone wearing a red dress on a ball in black and white: the center of attention. Origin returns the weary model of the black and red player on his head with a dark red cover, instead of the funky accent, as the protagonist of the show. The original black logo fills this role, and the slate-gray brushed aluminum plate at the bottom of the lid. Perhaps one day, Origin will offer consumers the opportunity to play with the keyboard.

Eon17-X is loaded with the ports as is convenient for a desktop replacement. On the right, you’ll see two USB 3.0 ports, a secure lock slot and sockets for audio output, headphones, microphone and S / PDIF. Another pair of USB 3.0 ports are on the left, with a USB Type-C port, a Thunderbolt 3 port, a 3-in-1 card reader and Gigabit Ethernet. On the back, there are two mini DisplayPort and an HDMI 2.0 port.

I liked the vibrant colors of the Eon17-X matte screen 2560 x 1440. Origin PC could have inserted a high-end mobile processor in Eon17-X, but where is the pleasure of all this? Instead, the Origin has equipped the laptop with a 3.7 GHz Intel Core i7-8700K processor with 16 GB of RAM. That’s right: they loaded an 8th Gen chip into a system. I ran Witcher 3 in a new tab while running a Planet Earth II episode on Netflix with 30 tabs open in the Chrome browser. There was not so much lag on the laptop.

How much energy is too much on a gaming laptop? The question of trick, there is not too much power. That’s why Acer Predator 17 X is an excellent investment. Equipped with an Intel’s Core i7 overclockable processor and a Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1080 GPU, the Predator can easily manage games, virtual reality, and multitasking. Not enough gluttony for you? The system also comes with Nvidia’s G-Sync 4K display, excellent sound, and outstanding heat management.

Acer Predator 17 X is not the most attractive gaming laptop I’ve ever seen, but something about its tank-like chassis tells me. Much of my affinity comes from the fact that all this material is wrapped in an opaque black material that is soft to the touch. I am also a big fan of the small Acer honeycomb pattern hidden under the zipper. It would be nice if the company redesigned the logo on the lid, which still looks strangely like a Decepticon logo. However, it seems powerful intimidating between the bright red accent strips on the lid.

The front of the laptop has three bright red metal grids to add to its player credo. But for some reason, the shadow of red seems more flashy than excited. The rear air intakes with their large transverse doors look much more authentic. Predator 17 is equipped with ports, with a pair of USB 3.0 ports on the right with a Thunderbolt 3 port, HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort, Gigabit Ethernet and a Kensington slot. Along the left side of the handset, there are two other USB 3.0 ports, an SD card slot and sockets for a microphone, a pair of headphones and the DC adapter.

The 17.3 “Predator 17 X and 3840 x 2160 display offer lush nuances with crisp detail. The Predator 17 X is just as powerful for spreadsheets, presentations, and multitasking as when you’re in the middle of a battle. 2.9GHz i7-7820HK with 32GB RAM ran a full system scan while running a Rick & Morty episode with 20 tabs opened in Google Chrome without significant latency.

The Asus ROG G701VI is an excellent kitchen sink. For beginners, the laptop comes with a 7th generation Intel Kaby Lake processor, paired with the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 GPU – currently the most powerful portable GPU on the market. So you have a pair of mS PCIe SSDs in RAID 0 for some of the fastest transfer speeds I’ve seen from a laptop. So you have a screen with 178-degree viewing angles and Nvidia G-Sync technology. The result is a laptop that can deliver high frame rates, perform virtual reality and multitask like a beast – while making friends and family with ooh and ahh. If you’re ready to spend, it’s a game system that should be at the top of the list.

I do not believe that orange-gray and bronze mix. However, all this logic comes out of the window when I look at the G701VI. The brushed gray aluminum cover highlights the innate beauty of the backlit orange accent surrounding the emblem of the Republic of Gamers. The copper chrome at the top distracts you from the mess. Asus recalled Peachy’s accents inside, going with a more black, and red color scheme. There is a copper band at the top that separates the bridge from the power button.

The G701VS has some future ports, including the Thunderbolt port and the USB Type-C port on the right side of the laptop. There is also a USB 3.0 port, a Mini DisplayPort, HDMI 2.0, and Gigabit Ethernet. On the left side of the system are a pair of USB 3.0 ports, an SD card reader, a microphone/headphone jack and a Kensington lock in the left hinge. You will find a considerable proprietary door at the back for the G701VI’s heavy power cord.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a wrong place at home looking at the G701VI’s screen, thanks to its 178-degree viewing angle. It meant I could sit on the far right of the 17.3 “display, 1920 x 1080 and watch everything I wanted, with an Intel Core i7-7820HK 7.9th Generation 7th generation with a ridiculous 64GB RAM, G701VI is a model of multitasking and productivity. I looked confidently at a Twitch stream while I was running a full system scan in Windows Defender while I had 20 tabs open in Google Chrome. I only noticed the slightest delay when I launched Tomb Raider.

In Alienware 17 R5, the company made small changes to the exterior design, creating a thinner chassis with even more personalized lighting options. Revisions to the cooling and audio system make quieter fans and speakers quieter. And a complete redesign of Alienware’s Command Center software allows you to customize lighting and overclock the processor and graphics card. Speaking of processors and GPUs, the high power configuration we tested has a powerful Intel Core i8 processor that can be overclocked at 5GHz – the first for notebooks – and a factory overclocked Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 GPU.

Call it an intergalactic rupture. In addition to the new hue, Alienware has included even more LED zones to the ready-to-use battalion, making the system thinner with its new hinged design. First of all, lighting. Alienware has added more modern areas, bringing the total to 13. You can choose custom colors and effects on the renewed Alien Command Center.

For ports, you get a single USB 3.0 port on the right with another on the left. You’ll also find a USB Type-C port, headphone and microphone jacks and a Noble Lock slot. Thanks to the front hinge design, you’ll see most of the ports in the back, including a Mini DisplayPort, HDMI 2.0, Thunderbolt 3, Ethernet, a power port and the proprietary port for the Alienware graphics amplifier.

The 2560 x 1440 panel is not available in OLED as a 13-inch cousin, but it still has no problem producing spectacular reds in the Black Klansman trailer. This iteration of Alienware 17 is the first in the series to break through the new 2.9GHz Intel i9-8950HK Core processor with 32GB of RAM. And thanks to Alien Command Center, you can overclock this lousy guy at 5 GHz. I started running on Hulu while watching some of my favorite Steven Universe videos on YouTube. From there, I just started throwing tabs in Google Chrome, some running Slack, others running on Twitch until I had 35 tabs open. Then I launched Windows Defender, and there was not a hiccup of this thing.

have the power!!! Deceived with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 GPU overclocked with 8GB of VRAM, I was expecting nothing but the highest frame rates, and the Alienware delivered. On 2560 x 1440, the frame fell to 65 fps. The frame rate jumped to 96 fps when I switched it to High at 1080p and dropped to an impressive 83 fps at 1440p.

This iteration of the Alienware 17 is the first in the series to break through Intel’s new 2.9GHz Core i9-8950HK processor with a whopping 32GB of RAM. And thanks to the Alien Command Center, you can overclock this bad boy at 5 GHz. I started running on Hulu while watching some of my favorite Steven Universe videos on YouTube. From there, I just started to launch tabs in Google Chrome, some running Slack, others running Twitch until I had 35 open tabs. Then I ran Windows Defender, and there was not a hiccup of this thing.

The Alienware 17’s 512 GB PCIe M12 SSD (with a 1 TB hard drive, 7200 rpm) duplicated 4.97 GB of media files in 9 seconds, binding the Eon17-X to 565.5 megabytes per second. That’s more than enough to dust off the average of 489.8 Mbps and the ASE X9 (1 TB PCIe SSD) of 424 Mbps. However, the Titan (512 GB NVMe SSD) landed a blistering 727 Mbps.

Battery Life and Heat

Despite all its great specifications, the Alienware 17 manages to be the last laptop on our battery test. It lasted around 3 hours and 47 minutes of continuous web browsing over Wi-Fi at 150 nits of brightness, exceeding the average of 3:36 premium gaming laptop. The Titan and Eon17-X started early with times of 2:54, and 1:52, respectively.

The Alienware 17 manages to stay cool when you play or watch videos, thanks to its revamped cooling system, dubbed Alienware Cryo-Tech v2.0. The company was able to reduce the blade thickness of its fans by 50% and added a steam chamber on the processor to help keep things cool. I took the system temperature after 15 minutes of fighting against a cave troll in Witcher 3. The touchpad recorded 76 degrees Fahrenheit while the center of the keyboard reached 98 degrees, which is a little higher than our comfort threshold of 95 degrees.

The first iteration of Zephyrus was revolutionary, combining innovative design with Nvidia’s low-power Max-Q GPU. This new Zephyrus M GM501 retains the superb and unique front chassis but improves aspects such as a keyboard, sound quality and battery life (even if it’s still a bit too short). But Asus has also taken off his gloves, giving his laptop one of the first 8th generation “Coffee Lake” Core i7 processors and a complete Nvidia GTX 1070 GPU, allowing a relatively thin bestial performance.

It’s a bit simplistic, but it’s not bad. The Zephyrus is still a beautiful thing in its frame and is made of brushed aluminum in a beautiful Asus color called Black Titanium. Like the original, the lid has two separate panels; one has vertical stripes while the other has horizontal, which gives the system a sort of two-tone effect. A large chrome ROG emblem is located on the left side of the cover and lights up red when the laptop is on, which catches your attention.

Do you need a USB 3.1 type A port? The Zephyrus has four, with three on the left and one on the right. You will also have a Thunderbolt 3 port on the right side with a secure lock slot. On the left, you get an HDMI port, a microphone/headphone jack, and a power jack.

The 15.6-inch Zephyrus matte 1920 x 1080 screen is designed for games. Thanks to its Nvidia G-Sync technology, players will encounter little or no screen tearing or latency. Welcomes the 8th generation with the Zephyrus 3.9 GHz Intel’s Core i7-8750H processor with 16 GB RAM. These new chips have six cores instead of four, which offer more performance than the previous generation. Despite opening 25 tabs in Google Chrome while running Windows Defender and viewing Doctor Strange on Netflix, Zephyrus showed no signs of slowing down.

Now, it’s a good Omen. HP’s latest entry into the Omen notebook line gives the 17-inch gaming machine a drastic but welcome redesign. Instead of playing safely, the Omen 17 sports a bold look that will not turn your head. And the shock does not end there, as the company added Nvidia GTX 1070 GPU and combined it with a robust Intel’s Core i7 processor and an incredibly fast SSD. The result is a system that can provide stunning performance if you play games or clear numbers.

HP has provided Omen 17 with a much-needed design revision. Instead of carbon fiber, sintered carbon and a safe exterior from previous versions, HP has decided to be bold. And it was the right decision. You will always have your carbon fiber on the lid; max of the panel is made of black material. The rest is made of brushed plastic, eliminating the high-end look of HP.

Like most desktop replacements, the Omen 17 has ports, including 2 USB 3.0 ports on the right and a power jack. On the left, you will find another USB 3.0 port with Thunderbolt 3, HDMI 2.0, mini DisplayPort, SD card slot, Gigabit Ethernet, headphone jack and microphone and a security lock slot.

Get ready for a beautiful series of 3840 x 2160 17.3-inch opaque colors of the Omen 17’s display. HP has equipped the Omen 17 with an Intel Core i7-7700HQ clock with 2.8 GHz clock and 32 GB of RAM. Although neither is overclockable, together they make the multitasking monster. I streamed an episode of BoJack Horseman on Netflix, with another 30 open Chrome tabs running a myriad of e-mail and social media apps with some Twitch feeds. The system has not been disturbed because I have not seen a hint of delay.

The VR-ready gaming platform can put a hole in your pocket, but it does not have to do it. The Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop is lightweight on the wallet and offers a solid performance for the price. The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 Max-Q GPU on this notebook can enhance the games and experiences of virtual reality and has a much longer life than its competitors. But the Dell screen, although better than previous models, is even weaker than the competition, and its keyboard is not fun to type. But if you can forget these faults, you will get a lot for the price.

The Inspiron maintains the black and red design seen on almost all gaming notebooks, but depends on the chosen color; you get something incredibly discreet or something colorful and proud. Our exam unit was an opaque black professional model, with a soft-touch cover with the Dell logo in bright red. The rear part, characterized by a series of air intakes, is presented in straight and gray plastic lines.

The interior maintains this scheme, with a soft black bridge, an island-style keyboard with red lettering and backlighting and a touchpad surrounded by a crimson edge. The power button is on the upper left corner also acts as a fingerprint reader. On the sides, you will find virtually all the ports you will need for other peripherals. On the left, there is a Noble lock slot, a USB 3.0 port, an Ethernet jack, and an SD card slot. The right is home to the headphone jack, a pair of USB 3.0 ports, a Thunderbolt 3 port, and an HDMI output.

The 15.6-inch 1080p display is not yet the best on the market, but switching to an IPS panel offers more accurate colors and wider viewing angles. With an Intel Core i5-7300U 2.5 GHz processor, 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD, Inspiron can be used to work as much as for gaming. With 30 tabs open, including a Twitch Overwatch stream, the handset showed no sign of delay.
