The Top 10 Cheap Bluetooth Speakers of January 2022

When looking for a speaker on a tight budget, it might seem like you have to sacrifice a lot in terms of performance. However, speakers have progressively upgraded their features keeping prices relatively low. While they are typically simple in design and small in size, many affordable speakers can still deliver clear voices. Few speakers have add-on apps that provide additional controls and features, integrated voice assistants and Bluetooth connectivity for greater mobility.

Affordable Bluetooth speakers keep their promise of performance at an affordable price. How low To answer that question, we found some cheap gems that cost as little as $22, while we found others in the sub-$50 range that make the best bluetooth speakers (overall) run for money. What we’re really saying is that you can find high quality wireless audio for a great value.

Some models have water resistance levels that are on par with more expensive offerings like the Sonos Roam and UE Megaboom 3. Others have longer battery life. There are even some that can be paired with a second speaker to create stereo sound. In our list of the best bluetooth speakers, we’ve ranked models based on performance and value so you can find something that fits your budget well.

Here is the list of the best cheap Bluetooth speakers

Anker Soundcore 2

Anker’s Soundcore 2 speaker has almost everything you’d want in a Bluetooth speaker, and it’s a bargain too. The 6.5 x 2.1 x 1.77-inch wireless speaker is small enough to be easily stored, and its fantastic 24-hour battery life means you can listen for a long time between charges. This features IPX5 water resistance, which makes it a great companion in the pool or bathroom. Best of all, Soundcore 2 sounds great, offering well-balanced bass, treble and midrange tones. It includes a microphone if you want to use it as a speakerphone and it has good wireless power, with a range of up at 66 feet.

The biggest downside is the lack of an app to adjust the sound or pair it with other speakers, something you usually find on more expensive Bluetooth speakers.

JBL 5 rate

The JBL Charge 5 is even more durable and better sounding than the previous four Charges – and it’s a current What Hi-Fi? Awarded in 2021. Its predecessor carried an IPX7 rating, meaning it could withstand being submerged in water to a depth of 1.5m, but the IP67-rated Charge 5 builds on that durability by also being fully dustproof. Want a speaker about the dimensions of a wine bottle that will carry your phone and does it sound good? You found it.

Thanks in part to a new 10W tweeter and racetrack-shaped driver, the Charge 5 currently sounds as good as you can get in a portable Bluetooth speaker design for under £200 ($200, AU$300). It has marginal improvements, both sonic and aesthetically, over its predecessors. One day JBL may produce a Charge that can be bested by a brave new rival, but rest assured, that didn’t happen with the splendid Charge 5.

Buy

JBL Clip 2

It’s been on the market for five years and remains one of the best bargains in its class. The JBL Clip 2 delivers strong audio performance, highlighted by impressive highs, mids and lows, in a compact, rugged design designed with portability in mind. The top-mounted clip-on carabiner makes the speaker simple to carry, easily attaching it to any item: backpack, bike strap, handbag… you name it. The waterproof (IPX7) exterior is another great hallmark that offers peace of mind when tossing the speaker in the pool or biking it through the park during a surprise storm.

It can even connect with two other Clip 2 speakers for surround sound, depending on where you place all three. You’ll likely need to invest in more than one if you want a stronger audio presence, because the speaker doesn’t get too loud. This being an older model also means there’s no support for apps, but that’s not necessarily a big hurdle.

Buy

Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2

Ultimate Ears really made an impact on the Bluetooth speaker market with several colorful, fun, and portable models in their books. This is the small but impressively impressive Wonderboom 2 released in 2019 – and because of its age, there are deals out there.

Battery life is 13 hours and a full charge takes just under three. It’s waterproof, sandproof, dustproof and also designed to float, so it should withstand the most lively pool parties. Playback is controlled over a Bluetooth connection, but note that there is no microphone for hands-free calling. Sonically, the Wonderboom 2 is an exhilarating listen with impressive bass due to its small dimensions. It contains a lot of detail and there is a good attacking feel. It’s easily one of the best sounding Bluetooth speakers you can buy for the money.

Buy

Sony SRS-XB23

Sony SRS-XB23 is an entry-level portable wireless Bluetooth speaker with good sound quality and even more impressive features. These include Stereo Pairing (which lets you assign each speaker to a left-right channel) and Party Mode (so you can string up for 100 Sony speakers together – imagine that party!). It is also completely dustproof and waterproof. up at three feet.

The design of the Sony SRS-XB23 borrows some cues from the Ultimate Ears speaker lineup, from the oblong shape to a top elastic strap that lets you hang the speaker from a carabiner, fence or pole. When it comes to the SRS-XB23’s audio quality, you’ll find better in other speakers in its class. However, it is an affordable external Bluetooth speaker that has many tricks up your sleeve.

Buy

Cambridge SoundWorks Oontz Angle 3

You won’t find many speakers better than the Oontz Angle 3 for so little money. It produces bright, clear voices and crisp highs, and even offers some bass – something other cheap speakers lack. With a unique 5.3 x 2.6 x 2.8 inch triangular design, it manages to be compact and still produce great sound. Thanks to its IPX5 weather resistance, you don’t have to worry if it gets splashed with water (but you shouldn’t submerge it in the pool). It includes a microphone if you want to use it as a speakerphone.

This version of the Oontz has better battery life than previous models and plays music to up to 14 hours. While it doesn’t sound as good as the SoundCore 2, it does have a stronger wireless signal. As with SoundCore, it lacks an app to customize the sound.

Buy

Tribit Stormbox Micro

It’s hard to imagine a home decor, backpack or personal taste that the Tribit Audio Stormbox Micro couldn’t happily merge with. It’s the size of a stack of drinks cup holders, it’s IP67 rated, there’s a handy rubberized handle on the back, and you can pair two of them in stereo mode. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at the bass influence the Tribit is capable of delivering. While a speaker of such dimensions is obviously limited in terms of bass weight, it does remarkably well; close your eyes while listening and you will see a bigger product.

If your budget reaches £50 ($60), the Tribit is a splendid option. Likewise, if you only have a small zippered compartment at the top of your backpack for a sonic travel companion, this speaker is worthy of that space. Take note, Ultimate Ears: a little-known brand called Tribit Audio has produced a better budget Bluetooth speaker.

Buy

Tribit X Sound Go

For a few bucks less than the Anker SoundCore 2, the Tribit XSound Go comes pretty close to the specs of our budget Bluetooth speaker: 24-hour battery life, great wireless range, and auxiliary input. At 6.7 x 2.3 x 2.2 inches, the Tribit is slightly larger than the SoundCore 2, but weighs slightly less. It surpasses SoundCore’s water resistance with an IPX7 rating, which means it can be completely submerged. Like the SoundCore 2 and Oontz Angle 3, it includes a microphone if you want to use it as a speakerphone.

While the Tribit offers very good overall sound for a small speaker, it fails to maintain up with SoundCore 2’s Bass output. As in SoundCore 2 and Oontz Angle 3, it lacks an application that allows you to customize the sound according to your tastes.

Buy

Amazon Echo Dot (4th generation)

The question of which voice assistant to present to your home it’s largely personal. But in updating its most popular and affordable Echo device with this degree of skill, Amazon has made the most convincing argument yet for choosing Alexa. Regardless of the Marmite aesthetic (yes, it feels a bit like Magic 8-Ball), Alexa responses are a little faster, responses are much (much) clearer, and the sonic performance is better than ever.

It still needs to be plugged in to work (don’t expect to go hiking), but Amazon’s entry-level Bluetooth and Wi-Fi smart device has come a long way in terms of sound quality since the arrival of the first and second Dots – so much so, you could say that Amazon has come a ‘full circle’ in the smart speaker arena.

Buy

Bose SoundLink Color II

The Bose SoundLink Color II is very similar to its predecessor, the Bose SoundLink Color, in that it offers good sound quality in a compact, colorful package. But Bose has made some changes with this iteration of its budget Bluetooth speaker. For example, SoundLink Color II now supports Apple’s Siri and Google Assistant for hands-free operation.

Then there’s the construction. SoundLink Color II has a soft-touch rubber instead of the hard plastic exterior of the previous generation SoundLink Color. This makes SoundLink Color II better able to withstand any bumps and scratches on the track. However, it is not waterproof but splash proof, so be careful near bodies of water or if a storm is brewing while you are out and about.
