Best True Wireless Earbuds in 2021

The Best True Wireless Earbuds are currently the most exciting in the sound room. With smart controls, seamless connectivity, and surprisingly good audio packaged in a compact, wireless design, they make listening to music on the go comfortable and fashion-forward. Now that more audio manufacturers have joined the movement, we see an abundance of models appearing on the market, with several great options to consider.

Sony WF-1000XM3

Noise-canceling wireless headphones that made our dreams come true

Best True Wireless Earbuds
  • Weight: 70g
  • Battery life (on-board): 6 hours
  • Battery life (charging case): 18 hours
  • Wireless range: 30ft
  • NFC: Yes

Because it is still rare to get noise cancellation in wired earbuds, the fact that Sony managed to pack it in a pair that is not only wireless but true wireless, is very impressive. While models like the AirPods Pro have tried to replicate this, Sony is still at the top of the true wireless table. That’s because the Sony WF-1000XM3 can offer a level of noise cancellation that is exceptionally good for a pair of earbuds. In essence, they do not offer the same isolation as a pair of over-ear headphones but are a worthy trade-off for that slimmer form.

Sony took the ball out of the park with the WF-1000XM3. These hands are not only the best looking true wireless earphones on the market, but they also combine serious noise-canceling technology with fist-pressing musicality. If you don’t want the inconvenience of carrying life-size cans around, they’re a convincing alternative. The battery life is above average, and that compact charging case is also pretty smooth.

Continuously improving, a recent update has brought the volume control of the buds themselves, as well as the support of Amazon Alexa. We think the true wireless jungle has found a new king. These earbuds might get even better shortly; on March 5th, the earbuds briefly appeared on the Qualcomm website, suggesting that the Sony WF-1000XM3 is about to get aptX HD support – and thus Hi-Res Audio support as well. Currently, this is the best wireless earbud that you can buy. Read more in our Sony WF-1000XM3 Review

Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2

Great-sounding and noise-canceling

  • Weight: 6g
  • Battery life (on-board): 7 hours
  • Battery life (charging case): 28 hours
  • Wireless range: 30ft
  • NFC: Yes

The sound quality, battery life, and design of the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 are truly brilliant – and they’re a really good alternative to the Sony WF-1000XM3, especially if you prefer a more flashy design when it comes to true wireless earphones. We did find that people with smaller ears sometimes find them a bit uncomfortable, and their high price just keeps them from reaching the top of this round. Different? Sennheiser has pretty much knocked it out of the park with these earplugs, offering great noise reduction in addition to smart looks and beautiful sound. Jabra Elite Active 75t

Best for sports activities

Best True Wireless Earbuds
  • Size: 0.8 x 0.7 x 0.6 inches
  • Weight: 0.2 ounces (per bud)
  • Battery life (rated): 7.5 hours; 28 hours (with charging case)
  • Bluetooth range: 30 feet (9 meters)
  • Special features: Active and passive noise cancellation, customizable EQ, fully waterproof

The best wireless earbuds for sports activities on the market just got even better, thanks to a free over-the-air ANC update that adds active noise cancellation to the mix. Don’t think you’ll get Bose-caliber results, or anything close to what the more expensive Elite 85t delivers, but Jabra has done an impressive job of adjusting its algorithm so that it blocks much of the external noise.

Even before ANC was added, the Elite Active 75t proved to be the model to beat, with better battery life, durability, sound and special features than its biggest threat: the AirPods Pro. The design remains streamlined, but it’s sturdier this time, with IP57 certification for waterproof protection and dust and sweat resistance. The sound is vibrant and can be customized through the Jabra Sound+ app, which is packed with presets and other cool features that improve both sound and call quality.

Master & Dynamic MW08

The best wireless earbuds for big budgets

Best True Wireless Earbuds
  • Size: 0.8 x 0.8 x 1 inches
  • Weight: 0.2 ounces (per bud
  •  Battery life (rated): 10 hours (ANC on), 12 hours (ANC off), 42 hours (with charging case)
  • Bluetooth range: 30 feet (9 meters)
  • Special features: Hybrid active noise cancellation, two-level ambient listening mode, Bluetooth 5.2, customizable fit, smart controls

The Master & Dynamic grabs your attention with its styling and holds your attention with its performance. ANC and ambient “Awareness” mode work well, battery life is good even with noise cancellation, and sound quality is among the best in the field. The MW08 is, admittedly, an expensive choice: right now it’s even more expensive than the AirPods Pro. But you do get a much, much better design in return, with earbuds made of ceramic, aluminum and stainless steel instead of plastic. The black color is nicely understated, but go for the white or blue version if you really want to stand out.

Cambridge Audio Melomania 1 Plus

Wireless earbud under $150

Best True Wireless Earbuds
  • Size: 1.1 x 0.6 x 0.6 inches
  • Weight: 0.2 ounces (per bud)
  • Battery life (rated): 7 hours (High Performance Mode), 9 hours (Low Power Mode), 45 hours (with charging case)
  • Bluetooth range: 30 feet (9 meters)
  • Special features: High Performance mode, EQ customization, IPX5 water resistance, voice assistant support

In a field of excellent AirPods alternatives, the Cambridge Audio Melomania 1 Plus still manages to stand out. Although ANC is missing, there is still plenty to love about this slim pair of wireless earbuds, not least the excellent sound quality. It even gets a boost thanks to the same amplification technology Cambridge Audio uses in its CX hi-fi stereo amplifiers, when you turn on the earbuds’ High Performance mode.

There’s also water resistance, full EQ adjustment and very reliable voice assistant support, all for less than you’d pay for a set of AirPods of the most basic size. Battery life also deserves a mention: with High Performance mode on, you can count on 6 to 7 hours of uptime, which jumps to 7 to 8 hours with the Low Power profile.

Lypertek Tevi

Incredible, affordable buds

Best True Wireless Earbuds
  • Weight: N/A
  • Battery life (on-board): 10 hours
  • Battery life (charging case): 70 hours
  • Wireless range: N/A
  • NFC: No

You may not have heard of the up-and-coming audio brand Lypertek, but expect to hear a lot about it soon – the Lypertek Tevi true wireless earbuds are among the best we’ve tried, especially given their low price tag ($130). With USB-C charging, well-balanced sound, long battery life, and waterproofness, they tick every box you could ask for, from what are a few budget tops. Surprisingly, the Lypertek Tevi can be blown away with a punch far above their weight and rival tops from some of the biggest audio brands in the world. Overall, this is one of the best true wireless earbuds that you can buy.

Klipsch T5 True Wireless

Audiophiles will love the Klipsch T5’s sound and build quality.

  • Weight: N/A
  • Battery life (on-board): 8 hours
  • Battery life (charging case): 24 hours
  • Wireless range: N/A
  • NFC: No

They’re not cheap, but the T5 stand up to the very best true wireless earbuds we’d say they’re among the best models on the market right now. That’s because they offer great sound, high build quality, long battery life, and one of the coolest cases we’ve ever seen. With the distinctive Klipsch sound, these tops sound warm, clear, and never rough. Acoustic music is luscious and detailed, with that clarity that extends to the treble as well, allowing the headphones to sing in the higher regions without ever being sibilant.

Battery life is estimated at eight hours per charge, and case provides an extra 24 hours – these are true wireless earbuds that can last you an entire flight from New York to San Francisco (or wherever your next trip takes you). Such specs make it one of the best true wireless earbuds that you can buy.

Jabra Elite 75t

A worthy successor to the Elite 65t

Best True Wireless Earbuds
  • Weight: 5.5g
  • Battery life (on-board): 7.5 hours
  • Battery life (charging case): 20 hours
  • Wireless range: 33ft
  • NFC: No

The Jabra Elite 75t enhances its predecessor, the Jabra Elite 65t, in almost every respect – except tonal balance. The headset and charging case are much smaller, the battery life makes a huge leap, overtaking the competition, and the customization capabilities we enjoyed in the 65t remain. Although they don’t have the best sound quality and lack active noise cancellation, the Jabra Elite 75t is also no longer a solid pair of true wireless headphones to use, especially if you frequently call with your headphones on. Overall, this is one of the best true wireless earbuds on the market.

Apple AirPods Pro

The perfect earbuds for Apple fans

  • Weight: 5.4g
  • Battery life (on-board): Up to 5 hours
  • Battery life (charging case): 24 hours
  • Wireless range: N/A
  • NFC: Yes

Apple has launched its new truly wireless Airpods Pro, with active noise cancellation, a (finally) much better fit, and improved design to attract more iPhone users to the true wireless fold. However, at $249, they are also pretty pricey, and as such, cannot be called the very best wireless headphones out there. That said, if you’re an iPhone user looking for some well-fitting earbuds with strong sound quality, you can do a lot worse than the new AirPods. Read more in our Apple AirPods Pro Review

The redesign means they’re much less likely to fail, and the extra microphones provide strong noise cancellation (especially when commuting), as well as a useful Transparency Mode, which lets the outside world in. The sound quality of the AirPods Pro has certainly improved since the previous iteration. In essence, there’s a remarkable emphasis on vocals and bass, which means these earbuds are better for pop fans than those who enjoy a more natural presentation that lends itself to classical music or more orchestral sounds. Such specs make it one of the best true wireless earbuds that you can buy.

Sennheiser CX 400BT

Comfortable earbuds with pristine sound quality

Best True Wireless Earbuds
  • Size: 1 x 0.9 x 0.9 inches
  • Weight: 0.2 ounces (per bud)
  • Battery Life (Rated): 7 hours, 20 hours (with charging case)
  • Bluetooth range: 35 feet (10 meters)
  • Special features: Bluetooth 5.1, customizable touch controls, source switching, EQ controls, replaceable tips, voice assistant support, customizable EQ

The Sennheiser CX 400BT are essentially the cheaper, non-noise-cancelling version of the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2. The lack of ANC is felt, especially since these aren’t a particularly cheap pair of earbuds, but you do get the same rich, perfectly balanced sound quality of their much more expensive cousins.

On top of that, the CX 400BT are finely crafted and comfortable to wear for hours on end. Yes, if you want ANC (or waterproofing), you’ll have to look further, but for casual use you’ll be hard-pressed to find something with such excellent sound right out of the box. There are also plenty of other features to play with, including customizable touch controls and the ability to quickly switch between up to 8 source devices at once.

Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro

The best Samsung true wireless earbuds

Best True Wireless Earbuds
  • Size: 0.8 x 0.7 x 0.8 inches
  • Weight: 0.2 ounces (per bud)
  • Battery life (rated): 5 hours (ANC on), 8 hours (ANC off), 18 hours (with charging case and ANC on), 28 hours (with charging case and ANC off)
  • Bluetooth range: 30 feet (9 meters)
  • Special features: Adjustable ANC, Ambient mode, Voice Detect, 360 Audio, quick source switching, IPX7 waterproofing

The Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro are easily the best wireless earbuds Samsung has ever made: their design, waterproofing and ANC are all significantly improved over the previous Galaxy Buds Live. They also challenge the AirPods Pro with a long list of features, such as Voice Detect, which can automatically turn on ambient sound mode when the microphones hear you speak. Overall, this is a great pair of earbuds, but be warned that some features – like the 360 Audio surround sound mode – only work when paired with a Samsung Galaxy smartphone running OneUI 3.1 or higher.

Anker Soundcore Liberty Air 2 Pro

The best cheap noise-cancelling earbuds

Best True Wireless Earbuds
  • Size: 1.5 x 0.9 x 0.9 inches
  • Weight: 0.4 ounces (per bud)
  • Battery life (rated): 5 hours (ANC on), 7 hours (ANC off), 18 hours (with charging case and ANC on), 26 hours (with charging case and ANC off)
  • Bluetooth range: 30 feet (9 meters)
  • Special features: Adjustable ANC, transparency mode, IPX4 water resistance, customizable EQ

What the Anker Soundcore Liberty Air 2 Pro lacks in looks, they make up for elsewhere. For a relatively affordable $130, you get active noise cancellation and transparency modes that can compete with earbuds that cost twice as much, and if you take advantage of the intelligent sound personalization feature, the overall sound quality is good too. IPX4 water resistance also makes these earbuds sweatproof for workouts, but although the fit is good, your ears may get tired after a few hours. Still, for quality ANC at such a low price, not everything will be perfect.

Bose QuietComfort Earbuds

The wireless earbuds with the best noise cancellation

Best True Wireless Earbuds
  • Size: 1.5 x 1 x 1.1 inches
  • Weight: 0.3 ounces (per bud)
  • Battery life (rated): 6 hours, 18 hours (with charging case)
  • Bluetooth range: 35 feet (10 meters)
  • Special features: Adjustable ANC, Bluetooth 5.1, Self Voice mode for enhancing calling

How Bose managed to give its flagship buds nearly the same ANC technology as the Bose 700, with half the microphones, is an engineering feat. Distractions are not heard, while you enjoy media (e.g., music, videos, IG clips) with rich, well-balanced sound. The buds are even able to blend ANC with ambient noise, so you’re fully aware of your surroundings with the utmost precision; outside sounds are clearer and less harsh on the ears.

What you’ll appreciate most is the call quality, as Bose’s powerful microphone array does a phenomenal job of picking up loud, clear-sounding vocals, while keeping background noise to a minimum at the highest level. We do wish Bose had optimized battery life better, especially since the listening modes consume a lot of power and the massive charging casing doesn’t last as long as the AirPods Pro’s casing.

Beats PowerBeats Pro

Impressively fitting training earbuds from Beats

Best True Wireless Earbuds
  • Weight: N/A
  • Battery life (on-board): 9 hours
  • Battery life (charging case): 16 hours
  • Wireless range: N/A
  • NFC: No

The new PowerBeats Pro wireless Beats headphones aren’t exactly the earbuds that analysts predicted, but they’re something special – they’re extremely comfortable, sound decent, and never seem to fall out. Nevertheless, we believe they’ve withstood Apple’s best true wireless earbuds yet, thanks to small additions like the microlaser’s pressure-reducing barometric vent hole, longer battery life, and superior sound quality. If we had to choose between wearing these earphones and the AirPods at home or in the office, we’d wear them. Overall, this is one of the best true wireless earbuds on the market. Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless

Incredible sound and design

Best True Wireless Earbuds
  • Weight: 72.6g
  • Battery life (on-board): 4 hours
  • Battery life (charging case): 12 hours
  • Wireless range: N/A
  • NFC: No

Sennheiser enters the race with his Momentum True Wireless earbuds. These wireless earbuds are an extension to the renowned Momentum range and offer Sennheiser’s signature high-fidelity audio in a beautifully streamlined package. You only get four hours of charge in the earbuds, but the carrying case will be able to charge them twice, giving you a total of 12 hours when you’re on the go.

Most importantly, $299, they’re almost double the cost of the Apple AirPods. You get a range of touch controls to keep you from skipping a track or pausing to your phone every time you want to, but the action of piercing things in your ear could be more comfortable – while the volume control is oddly inaccurate. Overall, Sennheiser’s first true wireless earbuds combine style and sound like few others. Read more about this earbud in our Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless Review

B&O Beoplay E8 2.0

Costly wireless earbuds that sound amazing

  • Weight: 13g (combined)
  • Battery life (on-board): 4 hours
  • Battery life (charging case): 8 hours
  • Wireless range: 100ft
  • NFC: Yes

Let’s get one thing out of the way – the B&O Beoplay E8 are some of the best looking and most expensive wireless earphones you can buy for $350. The sound quality is undeniably excellent, and you can customize the sound with the accompanying Beoplay app on Android and iOS. Even without tinkering with ToneTouch, the E8 2.0s sounds clear and crisp, with spicy bass frequencies. So the Bang & Olufsen E8 2.0 truly wireless earphones look and sound great, although the touch-sensitive buttons are sometimes a little too sensitive, and there’s no active noise cancellation.

However, it’s hard not to find these earphones attractive, and if you want your wireless earphones to look as good as they sound, they can be the perfect model for you. Overall, this is one of the best true wireless earbuds that you can buy.

Sony WF-SP800N

Spatial audio and noise-canceling smarts

  • Weight: 9.3g
  • Battery life: 18 hours (with case)
  • Wireless range: N/A
  • NFC: N/A

Sony’s latest true wireless earphones, the Sony WF-SP800N, are a triple threat. They’re IP55 certified to be sweat and dustproof, but they’re also pretty good for commuters because they have active noise reduction built-in – which is rare for a workout pair of earbuds – and work well for demanding music lovers thanks to their support for Sony’s new spatial audio format, 360 Reality Audio. However, they can be a little uncomfortable to wear for extended periods of time, and the bass is a little muddy to our taste – yet these true wireless earbuds are well worth a look.
