Can you Tell if Call is Being Forwarded?

Hello guys in this guide, I am gonna tell you about Can you Tell if your Call is Being Forwarded?. So read this article, step by step so you may understand it in a better way.

Guide: Can you Tell if your Call is Being Forwarded?

Call forwarding is one feature of modern telephone networks that allow you to forward incoming calls to another number. It works on both mobile and landlines and can be very useful. Essentially, you’re telling the network switch that all calls coming into your number should be diverted to another number. The switch will not dial your original number, but use the new destination.

So can you see if your call is being diverted? In a word, no. Call forwarding is a network setting and takes less than a second. Unless your network has an exotic setting that informs you, you will not know whether your call is forwarded or not. Aside from a few indicators, there are no message alerts or surefire ways to tell if someone has your phone calls to another device.

While most people don’t care if their calls are forwarded, it can be helpful to know if you have a child who home but is really not, or to make sure you are calling the company or professional you are looking for.

A forwarded call will no longer cost you money, assuming the number you are calling is in the United States, so standard rates apply.

Essentially, a forwarded call is diverted from the number you dialed to a new number. Unfortunately, there is no groundbreaking evidence that you have been transferred, other than a few minor indicators.

If you notice that when you call someone else, the feedback ringtone changes (no, not the musical ringback tone we loved in the days of phones), the call is likely to be transferred to another person phone. Not a big deal for the most part, but this is certainly an exciting event for those concerned about forwarding.

You may call someone and notice a slight delay after the first few rings. It takes a while for the system to understand where to go (it is, of course, a very short time). So strange pauses between rings or those that ring an abnormal amount of time can divert calls.

Why should someone have to forward their calls?

Call forwarding has many advantages. For example, if you know that you are about to travel outside of a network zone, you can forward your calls to a local landline to ensure you don’t miss any important communications. While Wi-Fi calling now exists, that’s probably a better option in this scenario.

Some people use the feature while traveling while others use it for business purposes. Instead of having a job phone and a personal phone at all times on them, call forwarding reduces the clutter and places all your phone calls in one place. Forwarding feature is fairly harmless in most situations, but as with all technical feature, there are those who come up with new and nefarious ways to use it.

Call forwarding

So, almost everyone in a top four provider has unlimited calling right now, but if not, these calls will be charged like any other call.

Unfortunately, this applies to both international and domestic calls, meaning that if someone diverts your calls abroad and you are unaware of the switch, your bill could be shockingly high. One way to avoid this is to contact your carrier and ask if they have options to block long distance international calling. Your phone will not communicate with phones outside the US with the international features deleted or blocked at the account level.

There are no additional costs for forwarding to another number. Keep in mind that your phone number must still be active on the network, even if the phone not itself. Calls are diverted through the cell phone carrier so you phone is pretty much disregarded here, unless you use that device to enable forwarding feature.

Set up call forwarding on Android

When you are on the other end of the call and want to start up forwarding, you can. Android makes it easy to forward calls to any number that can accept them.

  1. Open the phone app on your Android device.
  2. Select the three-dot menu icon to open Settings.
  3. Select Call settings and then Call forwarding.
  4. Select one of the settings according to your needs.
  5. Add the number to which calls should be forwarded.
  6. Select Enable and then OK to confirm.

The forwarding settings are something like Always forward, Forward if busy, Forward if unanswered, or Forward if not reached. You can set up each of these depending on your needs. To stop forwarding, repeat the above procedure and simply select Disable at step 6 instead of Enable.

You can also use codes on your Android to access these settings:

  • Divert unconditionally dial * 21 *
  • Divert if line is busy, dial * 004 *
  • Divert if line is busy, dial * 67 *
  • Divert call when no choice up dial * 61 *
  • Call forwarding out of reach, dial * 62 *

You will then be asked to add the forwarding number and confirm the settings.

Set up call forwarding on an iPhone

You can also forward calls with an iPhone with a similar configuration to the one above. Here is how to set up call forwarding on an iPhone if you don’t have Verizon as your carrier:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Crane Phone
  3. Then tap Call Forwarding
  4. Turn on call forwarding and enter the number to which you want to forward your calls

If you have Verizon as your carrier, the instructions are Verizon specific:

  • To forward your calls without calling first, enter * 72 than the 10 digit phone number to which you want to forward your calls
  • For you phone ring before transferring a call, enter * 71 than the 10 digit phone number to which you want to forward your calls

That’s it for non-Verizon and Verizon providers. You should now see a forwarding icon in the top bar of your iPhone when redirection is enabled.

Set up forwarding on a landline

I use call forwarding on my landline all the time. I only have the landline because it is part of my broadband package, so I just forward it to my mobile. Here is how to set up forwarding on a landline:

  1. Dial * 72 from your landline phone
  2. Enter the number to which the calls should be forwarded
  3. Select the hash sign (#) to confirm the number

That is it. Some providers allow conditional forwarding, others don’t. Verizon allows conditions and if you choose * 71 instead of * 72, you can set it up. When you are finished, dial * 73 to turn off call forwarding.
