Guide: Customize Reddit on PC and Android: Guide

Reddit is often referred to as the front page of the Internet. For me it is the homepage of the internet. Founded in 2005, it has grown into a repository of wit, humor, and all things Internet. Reddit is only booming because it has had a blast.

Reddit has an abundance of content categorized under subreddits. It’s easy to get lost in the circus that is Reddit, so here’s one guide On how to get the best out of Reddit by customizing it.

Before we get started, I assume you have a Reddit account. If not, please register and you can thank me later.

Switch to the old Reddit interface

Reddit refreshed its user interface earlier this year. Many Redditors thought the user interface wasn’t as useful as the old one, so their primary concern was switching to the older version of Reddit on a desktop. If you are also curious about that how to do that, the process is pretty easy.

Step 1: Log into Reddit.

Step 2: Click on your profile button in the top right corner of the screen.

Profile Reddit Click on Blurry

Step 3: Click on Visit Old Reddit.

Switch to Old Reddit Pc

Once you click on that, you’ll see the older version of Reddit which has its own charm – a classic Reddit that many users find easier to use. However, I very much doubt that the option to switch back to the older version of Reddit will be available forever.

Night mode

At night, the screen brightness can become too overwhelming. To deal with this, many popular apps and services, such as Twitter, have added a night mode featureNight mode ensures that the app or website goes dark, so that your eyes are not strained.

On PC

You can change Reddit to night mode on your PC by following these simple steps:

Change the message layout and sort them by the home page

Reddit shows its post on the homepage in three ways: map, classic, and compact. Messages are displayed in the map view up detailed in maps which results in a smaller number of posts on the screen and you have to scroll a lot. The classic and compact view usually fit more posts on the home page.

In addition, posts can be sorted as Best, Hot, New, Controversial, Top and Rising.

On PC

On the PC, you can change the layout by clicking one of the three buttons on Reddit’s toolbar as shown in the screenshot below. To sort your posts, you can click the Sort option and change how Reddit prioritizes the posts for you.

On Android

This option is quite easy on Android too. However, there are only two options to choose from: Card and Classic. Nevertheless, you can sort your messages by common options like on the PC. To change the message views, click on the card-like button in the top right corner of the screen and you can change the layout of the post. You can sort by clicking the default Best Messages in the top left of the screen.

Check out more posts from your favorite subreddit

Subreddits are cool. It’s normal for a Reddit user to have a favorite subreddit. So if you have one, you would want to see their posts at the top and first before the other posts. Now you don’t have to worry about this because Reddit learns from your input.

Note: You can discover subreddits from this main list or browse through broader topics.

If you need to respond to a post by upvoting or downvoting, or even commenting on the thread, Reddit will take note of the action. Then it prioritizes the subreddits you’re more concerned with. Smart Reddit!

Check out Reddit’s exclusive content

I repeat this: Reddit is the front page of the Internet. This is also because a lot of people with original, unpublished content tend to post it on Reddit first to get maximum engagement. These messages are called Original Content, or OC for short. Here’s how to access them.

Step 1: Click on the menu at the top of the screen.

Reddit main menu

Step 2: Click Original Content.

Reddit original content

A page is displayed up with the original content on Reddit. This is where the internet chooses up its feed and distributes it to other websites. It is very likely that the content you see here cannot be viewed anywhere else unless of course someone chooses it up from here and it starts spreading around.

You won’t find that option in Reddit’s Android app, though.

Change the Reddit theme on Android

This is an interesting one feature which is available in the Reddit app for Android. Monotony is a slow killer, they say. Reddit has kept you from getting tired of the regular Reddit interface by introducing new themes to Reddit’s Android app. You can change themes by following these simple steps below.

Step 1: Click on Settings button after clicking your avatar in the top left corner of the screen.

Step 2: Switch between available themes by clicking the theme option.

Step 2: Click on Follow button that appears on their profile card on the right side of the screen.

Done! Now Reddit will also show you posts from the Redditors you’ve been following. You can access these profiles later (in case you missed their posts or want to unfollow them) by clicking on their profile. up in the main menu of the homepage. You will have to scroll through the menu a bit to see the list of the profiles you are following.

The following profiles work the same way on Android. You can just click on a Redditor’s profile and click Follow button

Deactivate your Reddit account

Well, sometimes the time comes to say goodbye. If you’re into Reddit too much (it can be highly addictive like other social media platforms) you may want to deactivate your Reddit account. This option is available on PC. It is the same as deleting your account, but the option is not called ‘Delete your account’ as your messages will still be displayed often up post account deactivation, as they are still part of the Reddit community.

Note: You cannot recover a deactivated Reddit account.

You can deactivate your Reddit account by following the steps below.

Step 1: Click on User Settings under the profile menu in the top right corner of the screen.

Step 2: Scroll down and click Deactivate account.
