Guide: How to Automate Tasks using Actions on Windows 10 PC

If you have an Android or iPhone background, I’m sure you’ve used apps or at least heard about apps that can automate tasks. IFTTT is one of the big names when it comes to apps and services that can automate your tasks on Android or iPhone. There are actions that allow you to take a screenshot that will be automatically emailed to you or uploaded to the cloud.

I’ve been looking for something similar for Windows for a long time. Now we all know that Windows’s interface is not as sleek as Android and iOS’s and that’s why up with a simple app was difficult. But still the guys from AlomWare have come up with a geeky tool that can automate so many things on your Windows computer.

Using AlomeWare Actions to Automate Tasks

AlomWare Actions is free to use and download for home needs and the installation is quite easy and that may be the only simple thing when we talk about this app. After the app is installed, you will be prompted to configure a keyboard shortcut for the app. You can use this shortcut to access Actions from anywhere.

Choose Shortcut

Speaking of the interface, it will remind you of the classic software of yesteryear. There are boxes and from top left to bottom right they are actions, steps involved in each action, application settings and finally the actions you can use in any recipe you create manually. So before we start, the very first thing you need to configure is the settings and that’s the third box.

Actions interface

Here you need to configure the email settings, app shortcut and date and time variable. These are the SMTP settings and you need to get them from the settings page of your email service provider. Once that’s configured, it’s time to review the actions in the first box.

It’s all there

There will be some preconfigured recipes for you to try and you can try them out and even assign a personal shortcut. When trying out the recipes, always keep an eye on the second box as these are the steps each recipe will take once activated. You can use this data to learn how the actions work and then create your own recipes.

Steps and Desc

Creating recipes is a bit of a geek job as you have to work with actions and variables and then perform them in the correct order for the action to work. There is no online guide that teaches you how to use the actions to create a recipe, but the name of the actions and descriptions next to them will help you with the task.

Scripts

It may take some time for you to go through all the actions and use them usefully. Meanwhile, you can browse the online catalog for some actions that you can use and learn at the same time. These steps can be copied to the clipboard and then imported into AlomWare Actions from the clipboard using the respective button or by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + I.

As a free user, you can create as many as 10 recipes and you must purchase the full version of the product to remove that limitation.

Conclusion

There are many recipes you can download and modify to suit your needs. But it can be a bit tricky if you’re not the geek type.
