Infographics are all the rage these days. Everywhere you look, you’ll see infographics on just about every topic imaginable. And it’s really no surprise why. Humans are visual creatures and as such we prefer a visual representation to reading 10 pages of the same material. The old saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” still holds true today. Even on social media, you’ll find people sharing memes, infographics, and other forms of graphics because they’re so much easier to consume and understand. Below are the steps to create an infographic in Microsoft PowerPoint.
How to Create an infographic in Microsoft PowerPoint
On the Design tab, adjust the slide size to best fit your infographic.
Select SmartArt in PowerPoint’s navigation bar.
To create a timeline chart in PowerPoint suitable for any infographic, open PowerPoint and click Insert on the top navigation bar and select the SmartArt icon below the navigation bar where you will find several categories of charts to choose from.
Find a chart that fits your data in the Process or Image menu.
There are two categories of charts that make effective timelines. The first is the Process category. Click this option to expand the graphical menu shown below.
Creating charts for timelines
Add or remove data points, timestamps or other important information.
For these instructions, we will use the Alternating Picture Circles chart from the Picture menu. After inserting this chart into your first PowerPoint slide, you can add or remove circular icons to match the types of data and inputs you are presenting.
Enter your data in the chart.
At this point, the size of the timeline graph should match the amount of data you have. Start filling your timeline with the information you plan to report using this timeline and explore PowerPoint’s great drag and drop feature features to help organize the graphics as needed.
