How to Crop Videos on Android Device – Guide

modern android phones are great for capturing moving videos. However, there may be times when the ratio is not ideal. You may need to cut parts of the video before sharing. To crop the video, you can always transfer it to your computer and use video editing software, but an easier method is to use your device. You can use the freely available Google Photos app to crop videos on Android. Have you recorded a video on your Android smartphone or tablet and it just isn’t the right size for your social media posts?

You may not be able to do this as most Android devices don’t always have the option built into the software, which means you have to do this externally. Typically, this would require downloading software or applications that may take up valuable storage space on your device. However, there is a way to do this online – through your web browser on Android – without downloading anything. Read our three steps below to find out.

Install or update Google Photos first

  • The Google Photos app is free and should already be on your phone. If not, download it from the Google Play Store first.
  • If you haven’t used it for a long time and apps don’t update automatically, it’s worth checking for updates. To do this, open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon in the top right corner, and tap Manage apps and devices.
  • If multiple apps need an update and you don’t want to wait, find the Google Photos app and tap the Update button button. Just remember to come back and update the rest later.
