Hello guys in this guide, I am gonna tell you about How To Enable/Disable ActiveX on Chrome Browser. So read this article, step by step so you may understand it in a better way. ActiveX is a framework through which various software can communicate and share functionality and information. This technology has significantly improved the software as new possibilities have been born with it. But how does it work and why is it so important?
Guide: How To Enable/Disable ActiveX on Chrome Browser
The best way to explain the functionality is through an example. We use applications that have spell check. The first application that comes to mind is Microsoft Word. But applications such as Outlook Express also use spell check. Since there is a need for the same functions in both cases, programmers came up with this concept allowing them to use the same code for both applications. There is no need to create a new spell check for both applications.
So in this case, a spell check object has been created and can be easily implemented in both apps. The same goes for other apps that require spell checking. Why would you keep writing the same thing?
How to Enable ActiveX on Google Chrome
Considering that ActiveX is of course very useful, why isn’t it already enabled in all browsers? The answer lies in the fact that this technology is made by Microsoft. By default, ActiveX only works on applications also made by Microsoft – including Internet Explorer, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.
However, you can now enable ActiveX on both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, although this was not possible initially. Let’s see what to do.
Enable ActiveX in Chrome
You can use two methods for this. Go through both and choose the method that is easier for you to follow.
Open your Google Chrome browser.
Click on the Google Chrome menu option (three horizontal or vertical lines / dots, depending on the version you have installed).
Click on Settings.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Advanced.
Navigate to the System section.
Select Open Proxy Settings and a new popup window will appear.
Click the Security tab and select Custom level (in the Security level for this zone section).
From there you can see all the security settings you can change. Scroll down and select the Prompt option for both “Download Signed ActiveX Controls” and “Download Unsigned ActiveX Controls Sections”. Also make sure that Enable is checked in the “Run ActiveX Controls and Plugins” section.
Click on ‘OK‘and restart your browser to save the changes.
In the second method, we will enable ActiveX by adding it as a Chrome extension. First you need to download and install the plugin externally.
- Download the file here.
- Click on the Google Chrome menu (three horizontal or vertical lines / dots).
- Select more tools.
- Click on Extensions.
- Go to the folder where you downloaded the plug-in.
- Drag the plugin to the Extensions page.
- A list of permissions will appear, so click Add.
After you have completed the last step, restart your browser and you are good to go.
Enable ActiveX on Mozilla Firefox
When it comes to Mozilla Firefox, this process is similar.
Download the ActiveX plug-in for Mozilla here.
Install the plugin after downloading it by clicking the icon and following the instructions.
Open Mozilla and go to Tools to check if the plugin has been installed successfully.
Select the Plugins tab.
You should now be able to view ActiveX as a plug-in.
Is adding Active X a security risk?
There are potential threats when using Active X controls. Check for signed Active X options, as they usually have a better reputation than the unsigned options.
Why can’t I use Active X in my browser?
Your security settings may block some of the content. Go to the Tools and Security options to choose new security settings.
