Guide: How to Enable/Disable Automating Tasks on MacOS
Folder Actions are a series of actions that you can assign to any folder on your Mac that are automatically triggered when files are included in the selected folder. This is a great option to reduce ‘manual work’ on actions such as converting file formats to jpg and png or documents to pdf, duplicating files, or even pop-up notification.up.
If you don’t already know, your Mac has a feature called Action Script. It helps you automate the folder actions as we described earlier. In this fast guide, we’ll show you how to Get your action scripts up and run.back to menu ↑
Automate folder actions with action script
To assign action scripts to folders, open your Finder, find your preferred folder, right-click or press Ctrl + click and select Services> Set Folder Actions
The Set Folder Actions window appears with a selection of action scripts. Select a script of your choice and click on ‘To fasten
Now the selected script will be displayed in the window with the ‘checked’ box next to the selected folder.
Don’t forget to check the ‘Enable Folder Actions’ box and then close the window or press Cmd + Q.
Now your action script is enabled and your folder will automate all the actions you have assigned. In this example I have ‘Duplicate as PNG‘what only one thing does is duplicate any type of image file and convert it to PNG.
When you drag an image file into this folder, the action scripts will automatically create two folders in the folder, separated by the assigned actions: Original images holds the original, while the PNG images folder is where the duplicated images are kept.

Action scripts allow you to automate a number of folder actions at once, and if you want to convert image formats in bulk, it will definitely save you a lot of processing time. With a combination of these folder actions on your Mac, you can automate many things and save a lot of time. For Dropbox users, I would like to point out an earlier article that also automates the handling of files and folders, similar to what is described here.
