Suppose you are browsing some restricted websites at your workplace, or suppose you are in your dorm room and someone to whom you are accountable for your behavior is looking for you. Sure, you can close your browser with a simple click so as not to embarrass yourself, but it will make that person suspicious of your activity, which is not very desirable.

If you often find yourself in such situation while browsing Chrome, you can use PanicButton from next time to fix.

PanicButton is a simple extension for Chrome that hides all your tabs you are working on with a single click and opens an empty tab or any other specified tab it is configured for.

The second time you click on the same button, all your hidden tabs will be magically restored.

Panic Button Activated

The extension will bookmark all open tabs in a temporary folder and close them immediately. The PanicButton icon turns green and keeps track of the number of tabs you have closed with the button

You can now restore all tabs by clicking the green PanicButton. You can also manually restore the tabs, but we’ll look at them later. The PanicButton also gives you the option to hide all tabs using a keyboard shortcut and password protection.

Panic option

One of the things about using the extension in the normal way is that the PanicButton icon is always visible and you may be able to see if you have hidden tabs.

My verdict

PanicButton is a handy extension for anyone who wants to keep their online activity personal. Just use the tool in stealth mode and not normal mode to make the most of it.
