Hello guys in this guide, I am gonna tell you about How To Play YouTube in the background on the iPhone. So read this article, step by step so you may understand it in a better way.
Say you’re in your friend’s car. It’s Friday night, and you’re playing music from your favorite YouTube playlist. Then someone asks you for directions. Because your iPhone is already connected to the car’s stereo, the music stops as soon as you leave YouTube, and everyone in the car sighs collectively. YouTube enthusiasts have long expressed displeasure with this inconvenience.
There used to be a way around this by navigating to YouTube using Safari instead of the YouTube app and playing music from there, but that trick has since been tried. That means, unfortunately, the only way to play music from YouTube in the background is to sign up for YouTube’s paid subscription service, YouTube Premium.
Guide: How To Play YouTube in the Background on the iPhone
Fortunately, some iPhone users have discovered a number of other ways. While these methods can take a bit longer, they do work. Now keep in mind that Apple and YouTube itself are actively deleting these methods, so some of the methods in this article may not work anymore when you read this article. And who knows, there might be a new and smart way to have YouTube play in the background of your device.
1. YouTube Premium (previously known as YouTube Red)
We also know that buying and subscribing to YouTube Premium allows you to keep YouTube playing in the background, but that will cost you some money. However, if you don’t mind paying for YouTube Premium, that might be the easiest and best way to play YouTube in the background of your device. It is important to note that YouTube Premium is not the same as YouTube TV. YouTube TV is a separate service that allows you to watch cable and satellite TV through YouTube, making it a great cable cutting service for those who want to watch their favorite shows. You can also use YouTube TV to watch live broadcasts, which is especially useful for sports fans.
Despite YouTube TV has a lot of great stuff features, it does not offer its users the option to keep their shows on their background mobile appliances. So not only do you pay a lot more for YouTube TV than YouTube Premium, but you also can’t watch your shows with your phone screen off.
2. Request the YouTube Desktop site
Instead of just using the stand mobile browser site of YouTube on iPhone, requesting the desktop site seems to work for some people. The steps to do this depend on the browser you have.
In Safari you just need to click on it aA symbol to the left of the address bar, which brings up a small menu of options. From those options, tap Request a desktop website. In Chrome, tap the three vertical dots and select it Request Desktop site option.
From there, play the video and return to your home screen. The video will most likely stop playing. To resume playing the video, open your Control Center and tap the play button There.
Some have reported that this no longer works with Safari, while others say it still works. We managed to get this to work on an iPhone 11 with iOS 13.3.1. For it to work, we had to use the Request Desktop Website (the mobile version of the website would not work). We then have the phone screen with Safari open and the video will play. This stopped playing the video, but after hitting the play button on the lock screen/control center, the video started playing while the phone was locked.
If it still doesn’t work, try using a different browser or move on to the next method.
3. Use private browsing
This method includes Private mode on Safari. Just open the Safari browser and go to YouTube. Once there, open up the video you want to play in the background. Next, you need to convert the session to a private session, and you can do this by tapping the rightmost icon in the bottom bar and then pressing Private.
This will open up the video in a private session. Once the video has finished playing, you can exit the browser and still play the audio content using the control center. Again, some people claim this no longer works while others claim it still works. We couldn’t activate it successfully on an iPhone 11 with iOS 13.3.1, but the only way to know if it works for you is to try it out for yourself.
4. Try third-party apps
If nothing works, you can always try to download a third-party app to play YouTube in the background on your iPhone. These apps can help prevent YouTube from trying to play background content. A few of these can be found in the App Store, so choose the one you want to use and follow the steps in the app. A popular app is the YouTube Music app available from Apple’s App Store. These apps are sometimes deleted and may even stop working, but normally another one appears up.
Also, make sure to do some research on the different apps and choose the one with the best online reputation among users. Hopefully these methods (or at least one of them) have worked for you so that you can enjoy YouTube audio content in the background of your device. Many people are still angry that Apple and YouTube have made it so difficult to keep YouTube running in the background, but at least there are some solutions.back to menu ↑
