How to Remove Bloatware From Android Phone – Guide
If you bought an Android phone and are insanely irritated by the number of bloatware apps and distractions that come with them, don’t be alarmed just yet. While these factory-installed apps are there for good reason, they probably don’t do you any good and just take up your storage space and other vital resources. Maybe they delay your phone or even send tons of notifications and pop-up adsup that you would not like to receive. However, the good news is that you can remove them without rooting your phone or have any technical knowledge.
Unless you’ve rooted your phone – a risky process that will void your warranty – you can’t always delete these apps from your device’s storage. However, with a few simple steps, in any phone running Android 4.0 or later, you can at least hide the offending software from the Apps menu and prevent it from running in the background. Disabled apps still take time up space, but at least they won’t get in the way. Here we explain how to remove bloatware on android devices.
How to Remove Bloatware from Android Phone
First, download Universal Android Debloater (UAD) here. Click on “Assets” and download the EXE file for Windows. If you are on macOS, download the .tar.gz file.
Next, you need to set up ADB on your PC. follow our link tutorial to install ADB immediately.
After that, open a Terminal window (CMD for Windows and Terminal for macOS). Here, type adb devices and press Enter. If it returns a serial number, you’re good to go.
Now move the UAD file you downloaded to the platform-tools folder.
Finally, open Universal Android Debloater and it will automatically detect your Android smartphone.
Once your device is detected, make sure that “Recommended” is selected in the top drop-down menu. Based on your device’s ROM, Universal Android Debloater extracts the list of bloatware that can be safely removed. UAD has documented removable bloatware list for all major smartphone manufacturers. For general users, I suggest following the “Recommended” list.
Now, select the packages you want to remove and simply click on “Uninstall Selection” in the lower right corner. That said, I suggest you carefully check the package name and apply your own mind before uninstalling a package.
That way you can safely remove bloatware from your Android phone using Universal Android Debloater. In case you want to restore a specific package, you can choose “Uninstalled” or “Disabled” from the drop-down menu and select the package. Now, click on “Restore Selection”.
You can also search for specific apps in the search bar. If the app is not showing up up in debloater, install Package Name Viewer 2.0 (Free, offers in-app purchases) from Play Store on your Android phone and find the app package name. Now, look for the package name and uninstall the bloatware immediately.
Finally, to remove carrier-specific bloatware on Android, choose “carrier” from the third drop-down menu and remove unnecessary apps. You can repeat the same process to remove Google bloatware, OEM bloatware, AOSP apps, etc.
