Guide: How to Remove Top Sites and Highlights From Firefox for PC and Mobile
While Firefox is great to use after the Firefox Quantum rebranding, nothing beats huge, ugly, and distracting thumbnails that fill every new tab to make you switch browsers.
Use Firefox for a while and you will be amazed at the amount of clutter it creates up on the new tab page. Even with Pocket Recommendations turned off, you still have top sites and highlights that occupy the entire screen!back to menu ↑
What they do
Both the Top Sites and Highlights sections on the New Tab page work the same way. The former displays all the sites you visit often, while the latter shows a mix of both recently visited and bookmarked sites.
In essence, they are meant to facilitate easy access to your favorite sites, but in reality the thumbnails are too big and a mess to use.
Fortunately, both sections can be turned off right on the desktop. However, the procedure is a bit confusing mobile, but still easy to do.
Before you go ahead and disable Top Sites and Highlights completely, it’s worth knowing that you can manually delete individual sites so that they don’t show up up also on the screen. Really, there’s no reason not to have access to easy shortcuts just because you hate the thumbnail of a particular site, right?

On the desktop, click the circular Ellipsis icon that appears up whenever you move the mouse pointer over a listed item. On the context menu that appears up, click Ignore to make the thumbnail disappear.
However, it can still be displayed up over time. If you don’t want that, click Delete from History to permanently delete the thumbnail.

On mobile, it’s just a matter of long-pressing on an unwanted entry and selecting Delete or Remove from History – the former will temporarily hide entries, while the latter will delete them permanently.
Note: Clearing your browsing data will also delete all recently accessed sites from Top Sites and Highlights. However, bookmarked pages displayed in Highlights are not affected.back to menu ↑

Disabling both Top Sites and Highlights completely is quick and easy on the desktop, but on Android and iOS you need to dig a little more and know what you’re doing, especially when you turn off Highlights.back to menu ↑
Step 1: Open a new tab on your PC or Mac and click the gear icon on the right of the screen.
Step 2: Uncheck the boxes next to Top Sites and Highlights and click Done to disable both immediately features from the new tab page.

Step 2: Tap Home, then tap Top Sites.
Step 3: On the Top Sites pop-up, tap Hide to turn off Top sites.

Step 1: From the Firefox menu, tap Settings.
Step 2: On the next screen, tap New Tab.

Too many distractions, Mozilla!
Mozilla has really gone overboard with various New Tab page recommendations and it’s just plain ridiculous. They should have opted for a cleaner approach and much toned down. But with big companies like Mozilla you never really know, right?
And what’s the deal with Highlights on mobileThat should have been a pretty easy option to enable or disable. Talk about user-friendly developers!
