How to Set Parental Controls on Apple TV – Guide

Apple’s video streaming service, Apple TV+, has a good mix of content, but not all content is kid-friendly. If you’re worried that your kids are seeing something they shouldn’t, you can set up parental controls to restrict access to content on Apple TV+ by age rating. For iPhone, iPad and Mac, this is all controlled through the Screen Time settings, while Apple TV and streaming in a web browser use slightly different settings. There are no specific parental controls for Apple TV+ itself; However, you can use the Restrictions settings on the iPhone and iPad to limit the ratings of Apple TV+ shows and movies that can be accessed in the TV app.

That’s how it’s done. Apple TV Parental Controls includes Shopping & Rentals, In-App Purchases, Music & Podcasts, Ratings, Movies, TV Shows, Apps, Siri Speech, Screen Recording, Location Services for AirPlay Settings, Room View Meeting, Remote Application Pairing and TV provider. Regardless of which generation of Apple TV you own, parental controls (or restrictions as they are now called) are available in the same place. Before you begin, make sure you have the latest software for your Apple TV.

How to Turn on restrictions on Apple TV

  • Go to Settings > General > Restrictions.
  • Select Restrictions to enable it.
  • When prompted, choose a four-digit passcode to lock the option. Choose a password that you will easily remember.
  • Enter the four digits again to confirm and click OK. The full Restriction menu is now visible and you can further customize parental controls.
