How to Show FPS in Games – Guide
The frame rate, measured in frames per second (fps), indicates how fluid a given game is on your PC. The more frames you can fit in a second, the smoother the movement on the screen. Lower frame rates, i.e. frame rates less than 30 frames per second, appear choppy or slow. Framerate is a useful metric for evaluating the gaming performance of your hardware and is often used by PC enthusiasts who want to brag about their system. However, it’s not just about bragging about your system – knowing your frame rate can also help you get the best performance possible. For example, if your game is sluggish, viewing the frame rate can help you figure out which graphics settings are best to reduce to increase performance.
Knowing the frame rate can help you decide which monitor to buy – after all, there’s no reason to buy a 144Hz monitor if your graphics card can only manage 60 frames per second in the games you play. Monitoring the frame rate along with other hardware stats like CPU, GPU and VRAM usage can even tell you which component is the bottleneck in your system and where you would most benefit from an upgrade. Convinced? Here are some ways to measure frame rate, depending on how much information you need.

Steam game overlay
Valve recently added an FPS counter to the Steam in-game overlay. On Steam (as long as there are no games running), just go to Steam > Settings > In-Game and choose a position for the FPS display from the “In-Game FPS Counter” drop-down menu. Look at the corner of the screen you chose during a game and you will see the FPS counter. It always appears on top of the game itself, but it’s very small and discreet. you can get it feature working for non-Steam games as well. Add a game to your Steam library by opening the “Games” menu and choosing “Add a non-Steam game to my library”. Launch the game through Steam and the overlay may work with it depending on the game.
