How to Transfer Music from Google Play to YouTube – Guide
The Google Play Music website and mobile apps stopped working for all users globally in early December. It was the most significant step in the move to YouTube Music, but there is still one more step to go. Transfer your Play Music library to YouTube’s successor service before February 24, or download using Google Takeout. However, you can no longer use Google Takeout to download songs that have been uploaded to Play Music or to view past data. Users can access the main list of accessible services by going to the above URL, but Google’s previous streaming app is no longer available.
On Android and iPhone
The process is the same for mobile devices, regardless of whether you are using Android or iOS. Make sure you have the latest version of YouTube Music installed from Google Play or the App Store
Open YouTube Music. You can get a pop-upup announcing YouTube Music Premium. Just ignore it for now.
in the main home screen, you will see a banner that says “Transfer your Play Music library”. If you go to the app’s settings, you’ll also notice a new “Transfer from Google Play Music” option, which is a second way to start the process. If you don’t see any of the methods, maybe Google hasn’t implemented the transfer feature to your account yet, so check again.
Tap on “Let’s go”. YouTube Music will display everything you are about to migrate from Google Play Music, including songs, albums, playlists, purchases, uploads, your personalized taste profile/recommendations, and your favorite and unappreciated songs.
Once the process is in progress, you will see a persistent status bar “transferring your Google Play Music library” at the top of YouTube Music. Depending on the size of your library and how many other people are currently doing the transfer process, the migration can be done in minutes or take a few days. Things like playlists and your taste preferences will transfer almost instantly, with uploads and purchases taking longer as Google is making a direct copy of these files.
When the transfer is complete, you will receive an in-app notification and an email confirming that everything is ready. After everything is done, take a look around and make sure everything was done successfully. You should now also see a “continue listening from Google Play Music” line in the home screen to make the transition a little smoother as you become more familiar with the YouTube Music app.
In the web browser
You can also start YouTube Music downloading on the web — either in mobile and from a desktop browser. The video below covers this process, which is not far from the mobile process.
Click “transfer” and your content will start moving
