How to Turn on Dark Mode in Google Play Store – Guide

After Gmail, Google is rolling out Dark Mode to the Google Play Store this week. Smartphone users with Android 9 and Android 10 will be able to use this feature. This means that you can select the dark theme in the Google Play Store by changing the settings in the app. After changing the settings, the app will be forced to dim along with the theme that the smartphone has for other apps.

Google is introducing a dark theme change to the Play Store this week. Most devices running Android 9 and 10 should be able to use this option. With this new setting, the Play Store will be forced to always use the dark theme, regardless of what theme you set for Android by default. There are also options to force the app to always use the clear theme, or change it based on your system theme of choice!

How to Activate dark mode in Google Play Store

Enable dark mode in Google Play Store app on Android 10 and later

  • Start by opening the Google Play Store app on your favorite Android device. Click on the hamburger menu in the upper left corner of the screen. Tap the “Settings” gear, followed by “Theme” under “General”. From here you will see a pop-up menuup with three different options: “Light”, “Dark” and “System Default”.
  • When selecting dark mode, the Play Store theme will override any settings you have on your device, forcing the app to appear dark as seen in the screenshots. On the other hand, selecting light mode will force the Play Store to present its original light version even if your device has dark mode enabled system-wide. Finally, the “System Default” option will tell the Play Store app to mimic your device’s theme settings.
  • Enable Dark Mode in Google Play Store App on Android 9 and Earlier

  • While system-wide dark mode is only available on Android 10 and newer versions, users running older versions of the operating system can still enable dark mode in the Google Play Store app. Just follow the same steps as above to access the themes menu and select your preferred theme from the pop-up.up. Please note that the “System Default” option will not be available as the system-wide dark mode is not supported on Android 9 and earlier.
