Guide: How to Turn On/Off Last Active Status on Tumblr
Tumblr is a great and highly customizable blogging platform, but what makes it even better is the variety of social media features seamlessly integrated into all your blogs. Which means that instead of being an anonymous blog admin, you can easily interact with other Tumblr users just like you would on social media platforms like Facebook.
But understandably, that also brings up its fair share of privacy-related concerns, and that green activity indicator you see across someone’s avatar shows up also about yours. Not to mention the notification that shows you the last time you were active while messaging with others.
Fortunately, Tumblr is not adamant about forcing its users to broadcast their status online. Hence, you can easily turn the thing off if you want.back to menu ↑
Turn off your activity status
Turning off your activity status takes almost no time and can be done on all supported Tumblr platforms: desktop, Android and iOS. You also don’t have to repeat the action on all your devices as your settings are synced everywhere in real time.
However, there is only one caveat. You can’t just select an individual blog and turn activity status off – turning the thing off will turn it off for all blogs, so keep that in mind before proceeding.back to menu ↑
Step 1: Log in to your Tumblr account. Once you are on the dashboard, click on the account icon and select Settings from the drop-down menu.
Step 2: On the Settings screen, click Privacy.
Step 3: Turn off the switch next to Show others you’re active. You should see a green colored Saved notification flash briefly to indicate that your changes have been saved.
You can now exit the Settings screen and your activity status should no longer be displayed up for other users.
Note: If Tumblr doesn’t save the change, just reload the page and try again – it should save just fine.back to menu ↑
Step 1: load up your Tumblr app, then tap the account icon. On the next screen, tap the gear-shaped settings icon.
Step 2: Tap General Settings, then tap Privacy.
Step 3: Turn off the switch next to Show others you’re active.
Note: Do you see Others being able to find you by email? If you prefer that someone can’t find you through your email address, consider turning this off for even more privacy.back to menu ↑
Step 1: Open the Tumblr app and tap the account icon. Then select one of your blogs – it doesn’t matter which one.
Step 2: Tap the gear-shaped settings icon. In the cascade menu, tap General Settings.
Step 3: Tap the option labeled Privacy.
Step 4: Tap the switch next to Show others you’re active.
Note: If you have disabled your activity status from desktop and the change is not reflected on your Android or iOS mobile device, you’ll need to force quit and restart the Tumblr app for it to take effect.back to menu ↑
So, do you want to miss something?
Turning off your activity status is great for privacy. And the best part is that Tumblr doesn’t penalize you by turning off other users’ activity states. So unlike Instagram, you can poke around without revealing your own position if you wish!
But if you really want to grow your blog, other Tumblr users will keep an eye on your activity status – that annoying green dot shows after all up on your blog header, on replies, and on chat windows. And that can even result in more visitor engagement if you are up to deal with all kinds of weird messages!
After all, an active blogger is much more exciting, right? But hey, it’s your decision.

So if you’ve changed your mind, just head over to Tumblr’s privacy panel via desktop, Android, or iOS and just enable the Show others you’re active option.
But if you really plan on keeping your privacy, or don’t plan on blogging too much, then you probably won’t miss it by turning off your activity status – in fact, you’d hardly notice.
Now what about that safe mode limitation that shows up up for certain blogs? Want to know how to get around that even without logging into your account? Read all about that in the link below.back to menu ↑
