Guide: Nimbus Note vs Evernote: Comparison and Review
Since Evernote changed its pricing plans, users have been looking for alternatives. Few apps come close to Evernote as it offers a zillion number featuresSpeaking of alternatives, some of the popular ones are OneNote from Microsoft, Google Keep, Zoho Notebook etc. But there is one more that can really challenge Evernote when it comes to features: Nimbus Note.
Is Nimbus Note a Worthy Competitor to Evernote? Has it all Evernote featuresOh, and what about the web clipper?
Let’s take a look at this detailed comparison of features offered by Nimbus Note and Evernote.
Cross platform availability
One of the reasons for Evernote’s success is because of its availability on various platforms. Whether you want to use it on an Android, iPhone or Windows device, it has an app for everything.
Any idea about Nimbus Note? Yes, it is also available for all platforms. Nimbus has an app for Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows PC and Windows phoneNot only that, you also get a web version and Chrome and Opera extensions.back to menu ↑
Both apps have an almost similar user interface with notes on the first screen, search and settings on the top, add new note button bottom right and other items present under the navigation drawer. However, there are also some differences.
Evernote looks polished and refined in its apps, but in its web version, Nimbus is cleaner. On the other hand, Nimbus mobile apps give a bit of the old, simple look and feel, but the Windows app and web version are amazing. In fact, the Windows version offers a tab layout for notes.
Furthermore, it offers more features such as theme support. You can switch between light and dark mode on Nimbus Notes, the feature is missing from Evernote.
Likewise, with Nimbus Notes, you can customize the first screen. You can set it to show all notes, all folders, tags, a folder of your choice or your favorite notes. In Evernote, you are stuck with all notes.
Furthermore, Nimbus Note also lets you resize the home screen. You can choose between lists, custom lists and map view.back to menu ↑
Attachments and formatting
Whether you want to include a photo, PDF, music file or drawing in your notes, both apps support these attachments. You can also format your notes with multiple formatting options. For example, you can change the size, color and font of your text. You can even make it bold or italicize or list it and so on.back to menu ↑

Folders and subfolders
When it comes to Evernote, you can organize your notes into notebooks. These are just a collection of similar notes and can go up only on one level.
Nimbus, on the other hand, provides a hierarchical structure. At the top is the folder followed by subfolders. What’s interesting is that you are not limited to just one subfolder, you can also create sub folders within a subfolder. All these folders can contain different notes.
Personally, I like having a note-taking app with the folder structure and Nimbus Note offers that.back to menu ↑
In addition to folders, both apps support tags. This allows you to organize your notes.back to menu ↑
Nimbus Note offers the possibility to color code notes. However, it is available on the mobile apps only. You get the feature on the web version and Windows app. On the other hand, Evernote does not allow you to color-code notes.

Again, you can create to-do lists with both apps. However, none of them are good and each has its own drawbacks. On Evernote, it appears that the feature has been put there with force just for its sake.
While Nimbus offers a better version, the to-do lists are not readily available. This means that if you open a note with to-do lists, you won’t see it. You have to click on the to-do lists button first, which is strange.
Strange because sometimes we just want a simple to-do list, which should be easily available. But given that one can take a note and add a to-do list to the same note, it’s important feature missing from most notes and to do list apps, we can do with it. However, I really would like to have it as a separate one feature

Search and OCR
Evernote offers a faster search than Nimbus. When you search for a keyword in Evernote, the notes they contain are immediately displayed, but in the case of Nimbus, it takes a while.
While both apps support Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and you can search images and documents as well, it’s a paid one feature and only available to premium users.back to menu ↑
Although both apps provide a powerful search function features, it sometimes makes more sense to have the important notes readily available. You can use the favorites or shortcut for this featureWhile Nimbus calls it favorites, Evernote prefers to use the term shortcuts.
In Nimbus, the favorites option is readily available on the home screen making it very easy to access the notes. In Evernote, you need to open the navigation drawer first and here you’ll find the option for shortcuts.

Evernote is limited when it comes to reminders. You can only set time-based reminders here. On the other hand, Nimbus Note provides time, location and even phone-based memories.

You can also use Evernote for professional purposes as it allows you to work on shared notes. You can even chat with others through the Work Chat featureWhile you can also share notes with Nimbus, you can’t work on them at the same time.back to menu ↑
Evernote is known for its web clipper featureIt’s actually a save button for the internet. When you like something on the web, be it text, image, or full web page, you can cut it or save it to Evernote with just one click.
The same feature is also available in Nimbus Note. Interestingly, you can use it in a wide variety of browsers, such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Opera, and even mobile devices such as Android and iPhone. But Evernote’s web clipper is smoother to work with and has a more polished user interface.

While you get many features in the free versions, both apps have premium versions that offer extra featuresFor starters, they limit the amount of information that can be synchronized in a month. To sync more information, you need to switch to the premium version. In Nimbus Note you can sync 100MB of data per month, while in Evernote you’re limited to just 60MB.
The worst thing about Evernote is that in the free version, you can only sync between two devices. This is one of the reasons why I switched to Nimbus Note as it offers sync between unlimited devices even in the basic version.
Check out Nimbus Note if you’re looking for a worthy Evernote alternative.back to menu ↑
