Guide: Secure LinkedIn Account using Two-Step Verification: Guide
Securing your LinkedIn account through two-step verification is a great idea, especially if that account is an important resource to you.
LinkedIn is a great tool for finding professional connections, and the more popular you are with the service, the more valuable that account is. Therefore, you should do everything you can to keep things as safe as possible; two-step verification is one feature that will drastically improve security and is easy to install.
Most major websites provide this additional security measure for your account and you should seriously consider adding it to your account. You never know what could happen, so extra security is always welcome. Enabling it for your Google account or your Dropbox account is just as easy.
But back to LinkedIn and the two-step verification feature
LinkedIn two-step verification
Step 1: Log in to your LinkedIn account. After logging in, hover your mouse over your photo at the top right of the page.
Step 2: A menu will appear with a list of options that you can adjust in your account. LinkedIn is quite complex in that sense (even removing a connection takes a few steps).
You are interested in the Check your privacy and settings section. You will be asked to re-enter your password before you are actually allowed to do so.
Step 3: That’s quite a few settings, I know. However, you click on Account to go to the section that is relevant in this specific situation.
Step 4: Now that you are in the Account section, click on Manage security settings. Don’t worry, we’re getting really close to achieving what we wanted to do.
Step 5: Two-step verification for login has probably been disabled for your account. You want to click Enable to turn it on feature
Cool Tip On this page, you can also tell LinkedIn to use a secure connection while browsing. It’s another feature that provides more security for your account. So while you’re here just check the box next to it.
Step 6: You will probably be asked to enter your password again (better safe than sorry, I think). For this next step you will need a mobile phone that you can use nearby. Enter the number and don’t worry, LinkedIn won’t show it on the site.
When you are done entering the phone number, click send the code button at the bottom of the screen.
Step 7: You will receive a security code via SMS, as shown below. Enter that code in the next window and click Verify.
Step 8: If everything went according to plan, your account should now have two-step verification enabled. This is what happens when you try to log in to your account:
After you enter your password, a code will be sent to your phone via SMS. Only after entering that code will you be able to access your account.
You probably have some computers that you use all the time, like work and home the ones. You can tell LinkedIn to recognize this device in the future. That way, you don’t have to go through the two-step process when using those computers.back to menu ↑
Enabling two-step verification for your LinkedIn account is an easy step that can go a long way in securing your account, so I recommend doing it as soon as possible.back to menu ↑
