We all know the quality of the graphics processing unit (GPU) that Nvidia has produced over the years.  As one of the best, if not the best, on the market, their products meet the needs of graphic designers, video editors, animators, professional gamers and other high-end graphics work.  However, if a user suddenly gets the error “NVIDIA graphics driver is not compatible with this version of Windows” during update / installation, it will cause panic.

Since you cannot install the NVIDIA driver, the video card has no advantage.  Does this mean that Windows doesn't support the driver you're trying to install?  Or do you need to buy a new graphics card?  This issue occurs when trying to install NVidia drivers.  The result final is that as a result the user will not be able to take advantage of the NVidia GPU because the drivers will not be installed.

## How to Fix Nvidia Graphics Driver Not Compatible with This Version of Windows Problem

Before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting steps listed below, it is best to restart your computer first.  This will update the operating system and remove any corrupted temporary data that may be causing the issue.

### Uninstall and Reinstall NVIDIA Graphics Drivers

One of the best ways to fix this problem is to reinstall the NVIDIA driver on your computer.

Press Win + R (Windows logo key and R key) at the same time to invoke the Run box.

Type msconfig and click OK.  Then the system settings will open.

When System Configuration opens, click the Startup tab.  Under Boot Options, check Secure Boot and click OK.

When prompted to restart your computer to apply these changes, click Restart to boot into Safe Mode.

Go to your local hard drive by clicking This PC and then Local Disk C. You should be able to see the NVIDIA folder there.  Right click on it and select Delete.

Click Start and type Run.  Select Run, the Run dialog will appear.

Type “devmgmt.msc” into the run box and click the OK button button which should open the device manager window.

Expand the "Display adapters" field.  This will list all the network adapters the machine has installed.  Right click on the

Nvidia adapter you want to uninstall and select "Uninstall."

Click "OK" when prompted to uninstall the device.  This will remove the adapter from the list and uninstall the driver.

When prompted to restart your computer to apply these changes, click Restart.

Download the latest NVIDIA driver for your computer here https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx.

Run the installation file and follow the instructions that appear on the screen.  Choose the custom install option and check all the boxes in the custom install options windows.  Also, check the box that says “run clean install”.

Restart your computer.

### Update your Windows 10

It is possible that you are running an older version of Windows 10 which is causing this issue.  To fix this, you just need to install the latest OS updates.

Press Windows key + I to open Windows 10 settings

Scroll down and click Update and Security

From the Windows Update tab, click 'check for updates'

Accept installation of any updates you find

Windows may sometimes restart during these updates, do not interrupt it.

### Use GeForce Experience to Download NVIDIA Driver

If the problem persists, you should use GeForce Experience to download the NVIDIA driver.

If you don't have Geforce Experience installed, download and install it here https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/geforce-experience/.

Connect your monitor through the NVIDIA GPU if it's on a desktop computer.

Start the GeForce Experience program.  If you are asked to update it, accept the update, otherwise you may experience problems.

Click on the "Drivers" tab.  Any updates to your drivers will be found.  You can click “Check for Updates” on the far right to manually start a search.

When your latest drivers are found, they will be listed.  Click “Custom Install” to open the file (you can use express installation if you like, but it won't let you choose installation options).

The drivers file will start.  Make sure you perform a clean install by checking 'Run clean install' in the NVIDIA install window.  Complete the installation.

Restart your computer.
