Google Assistant is useful for many things in our lives these days.  Whether it's hands-free calling, sending messages, asking for directions or setting up up multiple alarms, Google voice assistant can do it all.  But did you know that you can use a Google Assistant-enabled smart speaker or smart display as a broadcast system for ads?  Yes you can.  And we'll walk you through the steps to send messages on Google Nest/Home devices and other Assistant-enabled devices in this guide.  Google Assistant smart speakers and displays have a built-in feature which facilitates communication with other family members.

For example, if you want to invite your children to dinner, you can do it directly from the kitchen or living room without having to go to your child's room.  In this case, the child's bedroom speaker announces the message you send through the living room speaker or smart display.  you can use this feature on all Google Assistant devices as well as your own phone to the speakers.  while your phone does not need to be on the same WiFi network, remember that all speakers must be connected to the same WiFi connection to broadcast the message.

### Launch Google Assistant

To use a Google Home or Nest smart speaker or Smart Display, just say "Hey Google" and one of the commands below.  With an iPhone, iPad or Android device, you need to launch Google Assistant.

On Android, there are several different ways to launch Google Assistant.  The first is to say “OK Google” or “Hey Google”.  Newer devices can launch Assistant with a swipe from the bottom left or right.

On iPhone and iPad, you need to install the Google Assistant app and launch it from the home screen.  After opening the app, say “OK Google” or tap the “Microphone” icon and Assistant will start listening.

To broadcast a message to each Google Nest or Home device in your home, use one of the following commands:

"Streaming [message].”

"Announce [message].”

To specify where the message will be transmitted, use these commands:

“Transmission to [room name] [message].”

“Transmission to [device name] [message].”

The difference between these two sentences is that the former will stream on all devices in the room while the latter will stream on the aforementioned device only.  You can find the name of each device and room using Google Home app on iPhone, iPad or Android.

### Reply to a broadcast

Replying to a broadcast works similarly to sending one.  After the Google Assistant has finished reciting the message from a speaker or Smart Display, say "Hey Google" and the following commands:

"Reply [message].”

"Send a reply" (Google will follow up and ask what the message is).

Your reply will only be sent to the original transmitting device.  If the original message was sent from a phone, they will receive a notification with your response.  If the original message came from a Google Home or Nest speaker or Smart Display, your response will be played aloud on the device.
