## How to Deauthorize a Computer on iTunes - Guide

By authorizing a Mac with one of the Apple Music, Books, or TV apps, you allow it to access any content purchased from the iTunes Store.  Authorization prevents other Apple devices using your Apple ID from accessing your content unless they have permission, making it valuable security feature.  To make iTunes authorization more effective, Apple has limited the number of devices you can authorize at the same time to five.  This limit lets you control how many devices can access your content at the same time.  If you are selling an authorized device, you must deauthorize it to remove access to your iTunes content.  As a result, the buyer will not be able to play or view your iTunes Store content.

If you plan to donate, sell or trade your Mac, first deauthorize your iTunes account on your computer as this will restrict access to content you purchased from the iTunes Store, iBooks Store or App Store, including things like music, movies, TV shows , apps and books.  Apple limits an account to five computers to access protected iTunes content.  So remember to deauthorize before disconnecting from a computer, but of course this is not always possible.  Suppose your Mac stops working or gets stolen.  And?  Note that Apple allows you to deauthorize all computers once a year and the process on a Windows computer is the same as on a Mac. ## How to    Deauthorize a computer in iTunes

Open iTunes on your computer

First, make sure you have the latest version of iTunes on your computer.  Then open the iTunes application on your computer by clicking the iTunes shortcut on the desktop.

Press Ctrl + B keys

This mandatory step is required to access a hidden menu in iTunes.  The menu highlighted in the image below is not visible when you access iTunes from a Windows computer.  You need to press Ctrl + B keys to access this hidden menu.

Click Store and click Deauthorize this computer

Now, from the iTunes menu bar, click Store, and from the drop-down menu, click Deauthorize this computer.  You will see a pop-up window asking you to enter your Apple ID and password.  Fill in the information as needed and click Deauthorize
