Conversations happen quickly on Snapchat.  It can be a little too fast at times.  This post describes how to clean  clean up your Snapchat shares in four different ways.

## How to    Delete a Snapchat message

Deleting a Snapchat message is super simple.  Log into the Snapchat app and do this:

Tap the “Chat” icon in the lower left corner.

Select the contact that the message you want to delete is with.

Select the contact that the message you want to delete is with.

Press and hold the message and click “Delete”.

Confirm by clicking “Delete” again.

## How to    clear a conversation

You can delete an entire conversation by following these steps.

Press and hold the contact.

Click “More” on the pop-upup that shows.

Click on “Clear Conversation”.

Confirm by clicking “Clear”.

## How to    Set snaps to automatically delete

If you've sent a snap, you'll notice that the press and delete option is not available.  This is because, unlike messages, they will be automatically deleted after a certain time.  You can control whether they are deleted after preview or after twenty-four hours.  Follow the same instructions as above by long pressing the contact and clicking.

Click on “Delete Chats…”

Select “After Preview”.

Following these steps will set the snaps from that conversation to be deleted once the recipient opens and views the message.

## How to    Delete saved messages

Snapchat main feature is that nothing lasts forever.  However, the app's popularity means that sometimes you want to save memories or conversations.  So the developers released the option to save chats.  You will know these messages are saved because they will have a gray background.  So luckily, your friend can't save something without you knowing.  Unlike normal Snapchat communications that expire in 24 hours or 30 days, saved messages last forever.  Clearing your chat should remove all saved chats.  But, if you don't want to clean up all the conversation.

Open Snapchat and locate your saved chat.

Long press the message and tap 'Don't save to chat'.

## Clear all conversations

Some platforms make it incredibly difficult to delete all your messages at once.  Fortunately, Snapchat is not one of those platforms.  You can easily delete all Snapchat messages with just a few clicks.

Open Snapchat and tap your profile icon in the top left corner.

Then tap on the Settings gear in the top right corner.

Scroll down and click 'Clear Conversation'.

Now, tap on the 'X' next to each contact and confirm in the pop-upup window.

It is important to keep in mind;  this will not delete saved messages.

## Recovering deleted messages

If you accidentally deleted your Snapchat messages, you might wonder if you can get them back later.  Unfortunately, the process is not simple.  If you've saved the messages, they will remain on your contact's profile.  Otherwise, the message list will be blank.  You can, however, try to download your data from the Snapchat website.

Sign in to your account.

Click on the 'My Data' option.

Click 'Submit Request' at the bottom to proceed.
