## How to Disable Ads, Bloatware, and Push Notifications in MIUI 11 - Guide

Xiaomi is rightfully one of the biggest smartphone players in India.  It offers quality hardware at bargain prices, making it hard to ignore.  However, if there's a long-standing problem we've had with your phones, is that the software can be very annoying to use due to the pre-installed bloatware and ads in the native apps.  It's an issue we're sure many of you have had or still have to this day and it remains an issue in the company's current MIUI 11 Android ROM as well.  If you are still using MIUI 9, don't worry as you can follow these steps.  Today we are going to take a quick tour how to disable ads in MIUI 11.

Aside from some minor changes, the procedure remains similar to previous versions of MIUI.  If you are not sure which version you have, just open the Settings app on your Xiaomi phone and then check the first entry, which should say “About phone”.  This should tell you the MIUI version, eg B. “MIUI Global 11.0.4”.  If it is version 11, continue with the following steps.  For this guide we use a Redmi Note 8 Pro (Review) and Redmi Note 9 Pro (Review), both running slightly different versions of MIUI 11.

## How to    Disable Ads, Bloatware and Push Notifications in MIUI 11

Although it was promised by Xiaomi that a 'Disable Ads' button is on the way, but for now there is no such subdivision.  So, follow the steps below to block ads on MIUI 11:

First go to Settings.

Go to the Passwords and Security option.

You need to open 'Authorization and Revocation'.

Now disable the toggle for “msa” (msa stands for MIUI System Ads and is responsible for collecting data and sending ads on Xiaomi smartphones).

Make sure you try to turn off the msa 4-5 times because the first few tries it might work.

You need to open the apps that display unnecessary ads and disable recommendations.  To do this:

For Mi Browser: Privacy & Security>> disable custom services

For Mi Video: Settings>>turn off online recommendations and push notifications

For File Manager: Settings>>About>>disable Recommendations.

For Lock Screen Wallpaper Carousel: Settings>>Lock Screen>>Wallpaper Carousel>>Turn off the toggle for 'Enable Wallpaper Carousel'

In fact, you can also disable personalized ad recommendations by going to Settings>>Password & Security>>Privacy>> Scroll down and disable 'Ad Services'.

### Block push notifications

Push notification on Xiaomi devices running MIUI 11 can be seen in system apps.  Follow the steps below to get rid of them:

Once you get a push notification, instead of removing it, press and hold the notification and turn off the toggle and press done.

To do this in separate apps, go to Settings>>Notifications.  Here you can disable notifications for separate apps.

### Uninstall Bloatware

There may be chances that you are not using the pre-installed apps present on your Xiaomi device.  So it's better to get rid of them and uninstall them right away.  This helps to create extra space on your device as well as cleaning up the bloatware.  However, Xiaomi has removed the option to disable apps that were present in previous versions of MIUI.  But below are the steps you can follow to remove this bloatware from your Xiaomi device running MIUI 11:

Firstly, download and extract the ADB and Fastboot tools on your PC.

Download Xiaomi Debloater here.

Connect your Xiaomi device to PC using a USB cable.

Debloater will automatically detect that a device has been connected.

After that, you just need to select the apps you need to uninstall from your device.  Ready!
