## How to Disable and Remove Reading List feature in Chrome - Guide

When launching Google Chrome, you may have noticed the Reading List option on the right side of the bookmarks bar. This feature it's a new one button, but it may still annoy some people who prefer to use that space in their bookmarks bar to bookmark other pages for easy access. If you want to add saved pages and sites to your bookmarks bar for easy access, you've no doubt noticed the reading list at the far right of the bar. About that feature may not bother some people, others don't like the fact that it takes up lots of space in your bookmarks bar.

In Google Chrome, you may have noticed a new reading list button to the left. The function allows you to conveniently save and access articles that are important to you. However, if you don't want your browser's bookmarks bar to be cluttered, you can remove it. That's how it's done. The reading list is a feature which allows you to save web pages to read later. It's similar to the Pocket Service idea, but it's built right into the browser. I find the reading list a practical addition. Bookmarks can get very confusing for someone navigating a lot of different things, like a college student or professional, and in the midst of it all, readings can be lost or hard to find. To add a link to your Reading List, simply click on the star icon in the address bar and select “Add to Reading List”.

## Remove Reading List from Google Settings

At the top, below the Google Chrome address bar, is the bookmarks bar. Here are your first bookmarked links, and in the right corner is the Reading List. If you click on it, you can see all the links you previously added to the list. If you want to remove this option from your browser window, here's how to do it.

Open Google Chrome.

Right-click anywhere on the Favorites bar.

Locate the 'Show Reading List' option. If there is a checkmark next to it, click on it and the Reading List option will disappear.

## Disable Add to Reading List option in Google Chrome

If it's the 'Add to Reading List' option you want to get rid of, so you can add more web pages to your existing reading list, here are the steps you need to take.

Open Google Chrome

In the address bar, paste the following:

Here, you will see the following two preferences:

M94 flags do not temporarily expire.

M95 flags not temporarily expiring

Open the drop-down list next to them and select Enabled. If you don't see these options right away, type 'Temporarily' into the 'Search Flags' search bar.

After making these changes, you will see an option to restart Chrome.

## Remove 'Add to Reading List' option from Google Chrome

On the odd chance you want to completely remove the 'Add to Reading List' option and just have the Favorites setting open every time you click the star icon, there's a very simple process for that too.

Open Chrome and paste the following into your address bar.

chrome://flags/#read-later

This will present a flag called Reading List on the screen with the same dropdown as the process mentioned above

Open it and select off.

Restart using the prompt offered and wait for the Chrome window to open again up.
