## How to    Disable Google Chrome PDF Viewer

Click on the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner of your Chrome browser.

### Disable Google Chrome PDF Viewer (in Chrome version 60 onwards)

For a version of Chrome 60 onwards, you can choose whether to open the PDF in Chrome's built-in PDF viewer or to download the file directly (you don't have the option to disable the built-in viewer).

Open the Chrome web browser.

Click on the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner of the Chrome window.

Click Settings.

Scroll down to the bottom of the window and click Advanced.

You can now enable the toggle in the 'Download PDF files instead of automatically opening them in Chrome' option.

Now, when clicking on a PDF file, instead of opening it in Chrome, it will download.  You can then open it in another PDF viewer.  If you want to set a default PDF viewer,

Right-click on any PDF file located in your file explorer.

Click 'Open With' and select 'Choose another application'.

Select the PDF viewer you want to set as the default.

Check the 'Always use this app to open pdf files' checkbox.

Click OK.

Your default PDF viewer is now set.

### Disable Google Chrome PDF Viewer (in Chrome version 57 onwards)

From version 57 to 59, you have the option to open PDF files in your default PDF viewer.

Click on the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner of the Chrome window.

Click Settings and then click 'Show advanced settings'.

Go to the privacy section and click on 'Content Settings'.

Scroll down the window.  You will find the heading 'PDF documents'.

Under the heading, check the option 'Open PDF files in the default PDF viewer app'.
