Although the notification system is designed to deliver a lot of indispensable advertisements to a user, it is often littered with useless marketing messages and updates. Developers take advantage of these direct advertisements and fill their notification screen with promotions and other useless messages.  You can take a stand against this abuse by disabling your notifications.

## How to    Disable Android 11 stock notifications using Notification Shade

The best way to turn off notifications across the board is to tap the Do Not Disturb icon on the Notification Shade.  With this option, you can determine which people, apps, alarms and other services can send notifications to your screen. Another way to turn off notifications is to mute apps individually.  You can do this in the Notification Shade as each notification appears, or toggle each app individually on a screen.  These instructions apply to Android 11 stock, but mostly work with Android 10 stock as well.

Swipe from top to bottom to expand the Notification Shadow.

Long press on notification.  If you're trying to silence Gmail, for example, you might need to tap and hold an email listed in the group.

Tap Turn off notifications in the lower left corner.

## How to    turn off Android 11 stock notifications using settings

You can also nix notifications through settings.  These instructions apply to Android 11 stock, but mostly work with Android 10 stock as well.

Swipe from top to bottom to expand the Notification Shadow and tap the gear icon.

Tap Apps & Notifications.

Tap Notifications.

Under Recently Sent, tap View all from last 7 days.

The list is configured to show the latest notifications.  Tap the down arrow next to Latest and select the All apps option.

Tap the toggle button next to the app you want to mute (or reactivate).
