## How to Disable Programmable Taskbar in Windows 10 PC - Guide

Giving users more personalization, Microsoft introduced a Programmable Taskbar on its Windows 10 Build 20161 Developer channel. This would allow users to redo what is being shown. up on the taskbar, which could be symbols that have just arrived. up at any point you log into an alternate Microsoft account. Taskbar symbols look contingent once you are signed in, such as Microsoft Accounts and Xbox Live.

This happens in many instances, especially with Microsoft apps like the Xbox app being added to the taskbar at any point where you are playing a lot, or Phone application when a phone is connected. While pasting them informs you about current activities and easier access, unchecking them makes the taskbar even prettier.

Below, we've incorporated some steps to disable the programmable taskbar on your Windows 10 operating system. It's a little specialized, but not overly difficult. Scroll through gradually; we added screenshots for better organization.

## Understand the programmable taskbar

As stated earlier, the main purpose of the taskbar is to host various application shortcuts. Some of them, like Start button, are more permanent. Meanwhile, email and browser applications are removable and replaceable. You can make the best use of cloud computing capabilities and go beyond tinkering with app icons.

Let's say you just connected your Android smartphone to a laptop using your Phone application. Windows will detect this and immediately add your Phone application icon on the taskbar. When you disconnect your phone from the computer, your Phone the icon will disappear once you don't need it anymore. You can experience the same with many other apps, such as Xbox Games or Steam, whenever you start a connected game.

This is how you get a cleaner, less cluttered taskbar so you can focus on the things that need your immediate attention - for example, browser notifications. As the cloud service triggers the programmable taskbar, you will need to allow Windows to collect data on behalf of “individual default properties, diagnostic data monitoring and user feedback”.

While the dynamic nature of the taskbar is good, I foresee a problem. You may not like the system automatically changing the behavior of your computer or even your mobile. I am very comfortable with displaying icons in a specific location. Things can get weird when they disappear and reappear at will. This will also change the keyboard shortcuts I carefully set using PowerToys.

You can enjoy the clean, bloatware-free experience, especially if you plan to get the most out of it. However, if you're having trouble with Microsoft taking control of the taskbar reading and transferring data to their cloud servers, we'll walk you through how to Turn it off.

## How to disable programmable taskbar

Open Registry Editor on your computer. To do this, click on the Start menu and search for “Regedit”. In the search results, click Registry Editor to open the application.

In Registry Editor, navigate to the following location:

On the right side of the app, right-click anywhere in the blank area and select New > Dword Value (32-bit). Name the newly created value “DisableCloudOptimizedContent.”

Double-click on the newly created Dword and, in the dialog that opens, change the value from '0' to '1'.

That's it. Save changes and exit the program. You will need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect. Once the changes are made, the computer will now always show the default taskbar and not the customized version with additional icons for other accounts.
