## How to Disable Windows PC’s Minimize and Maximize Animation Effect - Guide

The Maximize-Minimize window animation was first introduced in Windows Vista and has also found its way to Windows 7. Without a doubt, it's a great one feature and it gives an elegant look, but on the other hand it doesn't really matter that much if you're using a simple computer. Disabling this effect is very easy and makes it faster and more responsive. While it certainly adds a little flash to an otherwise dull action, the added stress on the GPU or CPU can be too much for older machines, forcing them to choke under the brunt of the activity.

## Disable visual animations using the Settings app

Use the Windows key + I keyboard shortcut to open the Settings app and click Ease of Access.

In the left pane, select the Display category. In the right-hand pane, slide the button "Show animations in Windows" button to the left to disable animations completely.

## Turn off visual animations using the control panel

Open Control Panel with large icon view and click Ease of Access Center.

Scroll down to the “Explore All Settings” section, click “Make Computer Easier To See“.

Check the option “Turn off all unnecessary animations (when possible)” and click OK.

## Disable visual animations using system properties

Use the Windows key + R keyboard shortcut to open the Run dialog, type sysdm.cpl and press Enter to open the System Properties window.

Select the Advanced tab. Click Settings button in the Performance section.

In the Performance Options dialog, you will see a long list of checkbox options that let you adjust the system's visual effects. To disable animations, we recommend unchecking the following options:

Animate controls and elements within windows

Animate windows by minimizing and maximizing

Disappears or slides menus into view

Fade or slide tooltips to view

Dim menu items after clicking

Swipe to open combo boxes

Smooth scrolling list boxes

When finished, click OK and Apply for the changes to take effect.
