## How to Download Google Maps Data - Guide

Google Maps is a great web-based geographic app.  This program is widely used all over the world, but few people know that you can export past data for future reference.  The best part is that the data is never erased from Google servers but can be accessed by the user as and when needed and used in other application programs as well.

Updating your Google Maps or using a new Google Maps app is no longer complicated, you can download your Google Maps history to use it later.  This post will guide you through how to download your data from Google Maps.  Earlier versions of Google Maps were known to save useful locations that could be navigated later.  The new inclusion provided an improved offline capability.  Browsing history can be saved and used even without internet.  Routine browsing data usage can be reduced once the data is downloaded.

## Download your Google Maps data at Mobile

You can download your Google Maps data onto a computer and mobile, and the steps are somewhat similar to each other.  However in this 5 step guide, I will show you How to download your Google Maps data in mobile:

### Create an Export in Google Maps

To download your Google Maps data, open the Google Maps app and sing.

Then click on your profile picture icon in the top right corner next to the search box.

Near the bottom, select “Your data on maps” which will take you to another page.

On the next screen, scroll down, find and select “Download your map data”.

### Select the data to be included

You will be redirected to another page where you can choose what you want to download and what format it should be in.

When ready, click on “Next Step”.

Select the data to be included.

### Choose destination, frequency and file type

Now, you can have your data file delivered to your email or to your preferred cloud storage service.  Choose the destination from the "Delivery method" drop-down box

For this tutorialwe will receive our file by email.

Then you can choose a single export of your data or set it up for the whole year with exports every two months.  You might want to consider.

Finally, choose the file type and size.  You may receive a ZIP or TGZ file for the type.

Then choose the maximum file size of 1GB up to 50GB.  If your data is larger than the chosen size, it will be split into multiple files.

When you have these items defined, click on “Create Export”.

Choose Destination, Frequency and File Type.

### View your export confirmation

You will see confirmation that the export is processing in the Export Progress box.  This confirms the number of items you have selected to export and gives you the option to “Cancel Export” if you change your mind.  You can also click “Create another export” if you want to get the remaining items.

You should also receive an email notification to your Gmail account.  This simply confirms that you requested a file of your data.

### Download your data from Google Maps

Depending on how much Google data you have, the export process can take anywhere from minutes to days.  You should receive an email to your Gmail account when the file is ready.

Remember, for that tutorial, we have opted to receive our export by email.  If you do the same, click “Manage exports” or “Download your files” in the email you receive.

The Manage Exports option takes you to a webpage displaying the data you have chosen to receive with a “Download” button.  The Download your files option will direct you to the same page but will automatically download the file at the same time.

Once you get the file, go to the downloads location to open it.  You should see folders for each data type you selected.
