Full Screen Optimization feature was introduced in Windows 10 to improve gaming and video playback experience for users.  When full-screen optimization feature is enabled, your PC prioritizes CPU and GPU resources to enhance games and play videos.  But that feature was soon blamed for the FPS drops.  In this article, I discussed how to disable full screen optimization in Windows 10. By disabling this feature, you can fix FPS drops while playing on your PC.

## Enable or disable full screen optimizations in Windows 11/10

In that guide, we will cover the following ways:

Using Registry Editor.

Applicable to a given set of users.

Applicable to all users.

Using Windows 10 settings.

### Using Registry Editor

Press WINKEY + R button combination to start the Run utility, type regedit and press Enter.  Click Yes to get the UAC or User Account Control prompt.  After Registry Editor opens, navigate to the following key location -

> HKEY_CURRENT_USER  System  GameConfigStore

Now right click in Explorer.  Select New > DWORD Value (32-bit).  Name the newly created DWORD GameDVR_DSEBehavior and press Enter to save it.  Double click on GameDVR_DSEBehavior DWORD and set its value to the following, depending on your choice,

2: Disable full-screen optimizations.0: Enable full-screen optimizations.  After setting a value, close Registry Editor and restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

### Applicable to a given set of users

Start by locating the main executable file for the application or game for which you need to enable or disable full-screen optimizations.

Right-click the located executable file and click Properties.  Toggle the tab labeled Compatibility.  In the section labeled Settings.

Check the option labeled Disable full-screen optimizations to disable the feature and vice versa for the opposite.

Click Apply and then OK for the settings to be applied.

### Applicable to all users

Start by locating the main executable file for the application or game for which you need to enable or disable full-screen optimizations.

Right-click the located executable file and click Properties.  Toggle the tab labeled Compatibility.
