## How to Enable WireGuard - Guide

You can use WireGuard on ProtonVPN on Android, iOS and Windows.  Here it is how to enable it on your device.

ProtonVPN, the Virtual Private Network (VPN) application from the team behind encrypted email provider ProtonMail, offers servers worldwide with fast connection speeds and a range of privacy-focused servers features.  In addition, the VPN application can automatically switch between IKEv2, OpenVPN and WireGuard VPN protocols.  While you could let the app determine the best connection and protocol, WireGuard is a relatively new, lightweight, and efficient protocol that improves your browsing experience.  Fortunately, the developers have given you a way to switch VPN protocols manually.

Here it is how to enable WireGuard on ProtonVPN on Android, iOS and Windows.  This feature it is not currently available on macOS or Linux.

## How to    Enable WireGuard on ProtonVPN on Android and iOS

Open the ProtonVPN app.

Disconnect from all active VPN connections.

Touch **Definitions** in the app navigation at the bottom of the screen.

tap the button button to disable the smart protocol.

Under Smart Protocol, tap the **Protocol** box.

Select **WireGuard (beta)**.  This puts a checkmark next to your selection.

Use the **Quick connection** button  to initiate a VPN connection with WireGuard.  Alternatively, use the Map or Countries view to manually select a server.

## How to    Enable WireGuard on ProtonVPN on Windows

Open the ProtonVPN app.

Disconnect from all active VPN connections.

Click on the menu icon in the upper left corner of the window and select **Definitions.**

open the **Connection** tab.  O **Standard Protocol** will be set to Smart by default.

Click on the dropdown box and select **WireGuard (beta)**.

Close the Settings dialog.

Use the **Quick connection**button    to initiate a VPN connection with WireGuard.  Alternatively, use the Map or Countries view to manually select a server.
