### Turn off Xbox controller

Although you can manually turn off the Xbox controller, still, if you do not handle the Xbox for at least 15 minutes, it will automatically turn off.  To cut manually,

Press and hold Xbox button in the controller

On the screen, navigate to Turn off controller and select that option

### Use rechargeable batteries

Rechargeable batteries, as the name suggests, come with a charging console and AA batteries.  After fully charging the batteries, they may last long enough until you charge the next time.  That way, you won't run out of battery in the controller.

You can get a pack of four batteries.  You can use two batteries on your Xbox controller.  Keep the other two as a backup and load them properly.  When the two previous ones run out of battery or are low on charge, replace them with the other two.

### Avoid connecting headphones to Xbox controller

While you can connect your headphones to the controller, it will contribute to battery drain.  I suggest that you connect the headset to the console instead.  Alternatively, choose a wireless headset, but this will be an expensive investment.  The only advantage is that this option will help conserve the controller's battery.

### Use disposable batteries

This is a cheaper option, but it works great if you're not a regular player.  You can have the disposable alkaline batteries and replace them in the controller when you realize you are about to run out of power.

### Go Old School with wired controller

If you want to avoid the costs of buying batteries or running out of charge, it's best to use a wired Xbox controller.  Depending on which Xbox console you have, the wired connection might be a little different.  Xbox X|S controller supports USB-c connector and Xbox One series supports Micro USB connector.
