## How to Fix ‘Hashtags Not Working in Instagram’ Issue - Guide

Although recently championed by Twitter, Instagram has vastly expanded the use and relevance of Hashtags. The moment you use hashtags in your Instagram posts, your content is included among the different gifts that relate to your specialty or industry. This extends the reach of your post, allowing users who may not be among your supporters to investigate your content. Therefore, this improves the focus on the system and improves the image. Before we go on to explain why your Instagram hashtags aren't working, we should first check your motivation.

## FIX - Instagram hashtags no longer work

### Use Specific Hashtags

Using hashtags is very complicated. People often assume that using any set of hashtags would help and therefore increase engagement. This is wrong. Using random hashtags is a big mistake and will only reduce your overall engagement.

Understand this - Instagram has the ability to follow hashtags, which means an Instagram hashtag is a possible factor in increasing engagement. The latest changes to Instagram's algorithm focus more on something called relevant hashtags.

Hashtags are engaged based on content type. For example, if someone is posting a photo of a car and is using hashtags related to food or gardening - engagement will likely drop as the content is not relevant to the hashtags and someone is likely to report the hashtags.

Remember, users now have the feature to hashtag content as something “they don't want to see”. Also, when someone searches for a car {the post you just submitted in the feed}, they won't find it in the food or gardening hashtags. Therefore, it is always advisable to use the relevant hashtags corresponding to the content being uploaded.

Just remember, if you're uploading a photo of a car, use hashtags related to the car and associated subjects {like racing, driving, supercar, etc.}.

### Use 30 hashtags

Instagram allows a maximum of 30 hashtags in a post.

If you include more than 30 tags in a single photo / video, your comment / text will not be published.

You can use hashtags in the comments or legend.

It doesn't make any difference.

### Find the best hashtags

Finding and selecting the best hashtags is very complicated. Almost everyone faces this difficult scenario where they can't select the best hashtags. But, it is very basic to understand this knowledge. Here's what you should do:

Use a total of 30 hashtags. But, also remember to use 28 or 29 hashtags once a week {with the respective post}. This avoids “hashtag padding”.

Of the total, 30 hashtags. We use 20 with highest post number and those can be generic - based on post and location. Another 10 must be strictly post-specific. If you're submitting a car post, use 20 hashtags related to motor vehicle, race, direction, and location. While the remaining 10 must be specific to the post. Suppose you are uploading a photo of BMW, then use hashtags related to BMW and its variants.

From 30, use 20 hashtags with less than 10 million posts and the remaining 10 hashtags must be in the range of 5 million to 3 million posts. It's very simple to understand that if you're using hashtags with 100 million posts, chances are much lower that your post is featured in the most popular posts. It is called competitive measure and always considers the average or fair number of posts associated with the respective image.

## How to use hashtags on Instagram

You can add hashtags to the caption or comments of your post. If you have a public account and you add hashtags to a post, the post will be visible on the corresponding hashtag page. To tag a photo or video with a hashtag:

Take or upload a photo or video.

Choose to add a filter and tap Next.

Tap Write a caption… and type # followed by text or emoji (example: #flower).

Touch Share.

If you'd like to add a hashtag to an already submitted post, edit the caption or include your hashtag in a comment about your photo.

After tagging your post with a hashtag, you can tap the hashtag to see a page that shows all the photos and videos people have uploaded with that hashtag Important things to keep in mind when using Instagram Hahstags:

When people with private profiles tag posts, they don't publicly appear on hashtag pages.

Numbers are allowed in hashtags. However, spaces and special characters such as $ or % will not work.

You can only tag your own posts. You cannot tag other people's photos/videos.

You can use up to 30 tags in one post. If you include more than 30 tags in a single photo / video, your comment will not be published.
