## How to Improve Recommendations on Google TV - Guide

Google TV has one of the best recommender systems I've ever used.  Amazon's Fire TV recommends movies and shows mostly from its own video streaming service, while Roku hardly recommends anything.  However, Google TV, which now replaces Android TV, is incredibly useful in helping you find what you love to watch.  Chromecast with Google TV differs from the traditional Chromecast dongle, which requires a phone to control and transmit content.  Google TV powers the new device and is now similar to a Roku or Fire TV.  It has its own operating system, its own remote and a user interface.  Part of this interface is a feature which allows Google TV to recommend movies and TV shows that it believes will pique your interest.

Google TV features are coming to Android TV, including watchlist, improved recommendations and detail pages, and users will see the new features this week.  Older models running Android TV have been updated to make the UI more similar to Google TV. features aim to take the experience a step further.  Google announced the development on its Android TV community forum.

## How to improve your movie and TV show recommendations on Google TV

Using the remote, go to the top right of the screen and click on your profile icon.

From there, navigate to Settings and click on it.

In the Settings menu, navigate to “Accounts & Login”.

Then choose your account.  This should show your name and your Google login address (probably a Gmail account).

Now, you will want to scroll down to the “Content Preferences” option.  And click on that.

From here, you will see a movie or TV show in the center of the screen.  tap left button on the D-Pad to select "less so" or the right button for "more like this".  Or you can select the up button    to skip that title.

You'll continue to do this for all recent titles you've watched on your Google TV devices.

Once you are done going through these titles, you can tap on “Keep Rating” or “Done”.  And you'll soon start to see better recommendations for what you might want to watch.

And that's it.  You have now improved your recommendations for Google TV.  Which will make it easier to find something to watch on your TV in the future.  And the more you do it, the better it will get over time.
