In the long run, this makes the system work more efficiently, thus reducing energy consumption. To check for updates on Windows 11, follow the steps below:

First, press Win + I keys to open Settings.

Then click Check for updates. This will allow your system to check for the latest versions so you can install them on your system. If updates are available, download and install them.

### Change display settings

Your screen is one of the most energy-consuming components of your laptop. For example, the higher the brightness, the faster the battery will drain. That's why if you want to save battery, dim the screen. Here's How to change your display settings:

Open Settings by pressing Win + I.

Then click System > View.

Under Display, use the slider under Brightness to adjust the device's brightness.

### Use Battery Saver

Just like Windows 10, Windows 11 also comes with its own battery saver mode, allowing you to get more battery life by automatically adjusting your screen brightness, limiting notifications and background activity. You also have the option to automatically activate this feature when your battery reaches a certain percentage. Follow the steps to enable Battery Saver feature:

Under Settings, click System > Power & Battery.

Click on the button button Click Battery Saver to turn it on manually.

If you want to enable this feature automatically, choose your preferred battery percentage from the Automatically turn on battery saver drop-down menu. This allows Battery Saver to activate when the battery reaches the desired percentage.

### Customize your system's power consumption

Energy consumption refers to the energy that the laptop consumes from the moment it is fully charged. Essentially, all the processing and computing your device does puts its components under stress, demanding battery power. The Windows 11 system allows you to choose from your power plan models. Here they are.

Best performance. This power plan is best for people who would like to swap battery runtime to improve their machine's speed and responsiveness. However, this will drain your battery faster than usual.

Better energy efficiency. This mode offers longer battery life than your system's default settings. However, it can prevent some apps from running in the background and control your computer's brightness.

Balanced. This is the default power mode and is a mix of better battery life and better performance.

To improve the battery life of your Windows 11 device, follow the steps below to change the default power mode to the best energy efficient plan:

Open Settings by pressing Win+I. You can also click Start > Settings icon.

Then click System > Power & Battery.

In power mode, choose Better Power Efficiency.

If you don't want to use model power plans in Windows 11, you can create your plan depending on your usage. See how:

For example, you can adjust when the hard disk turns off after a period of inactivity. You can also reset it to the default setting if you are not satisfied with your custom power plan. When finished, click Apply and then OK.

### Change background activity for some apps

Running too many apps in the background can drain your battery quickly. A great way to improve battery life is to prevent some apps from running in the background, especially those you don't need. Here's how.

Press and hold Windows + I keys to open Settings.

Then click System > Power & Battery.

Under Battery Usage, check which apps might be consuming more battery in the background. For apps that allow you to manage background activity, select the Three vertical dots icon and then Manage Background Activity.

On the app's settings page, change the setting under Allow this app to run in the background.

In this Power Options window, you can choose settings that demonstrate how you want your computer to consume power. For example, you can adjust when the hard disk turns off after a period of inactivity. You can also reset it to the default setting if you are not satisfied with your custom power plan. When finished, click Apply and then OK.

### Make your computer sleep faster

Another great way to improve your device's battery is to automatically turn off the system when not in use. The best way to do this is to shorten the sleep wait duration. For example, instead of waiting an hour or more before the device automatically goes to sleep, reduce the wait period to 30 minutes or more. Here it is how to do it:

Open Settings via the Start menu or by pressing Win + I.

Then click System > Power & Battery. Under Screen and Sleep, you can select how long your Windows 11 system waits in an unused idle state before the screen automatically turns off.
