## How to Install Android Q GSI on Any Android - Guide

The Generic System Image (GSI) is an advanced operating system image equipped with AOSP source code.  We can also say that an Android Q GSI is an emulator-like tool that helps Android users to develop.  Also, the GSI is basically a fastboot ROM and usually requires a fastboot connection.  GSI has the advantage of coming directly from Google, so you don't have to rely on a custom ROM developer for updates.  And you can always install the latest Android officially from the Android manufacturer.  For many aging phones going from a heavy custom OEM skin like MIUI or OneUI to stock Android works wonders in terms of performance.

It has helped many smartphone developers and OEMs to create custom ROMs and provide faster updates for specific devices.  Currently, Google officially supports GSI and allows you to install Android Q on any Project Treble compatible device.  That is great.  It is not.  GSI will always be able to officially install the latest Android directly from the manufacturer and also much faster.  You don't need to trust a custom ROM developer for updates.  The method works fine, but we recommend that you create a full backup of your device data before doing anything.  But in your case it may be different.  Therefore, you must follow the process correctly.

## Steps to Install Android Q GSI on Android Device

To install Android Q GSI on your Android device, follow the steps below:

First, you need to connect your device to a PC with a USB cable and launch the command prompt from the installed ADB and Fastboot folder.

Then restart your device in fastboot mode by typing this command.

You may need to grant ADB debug permissions to the computer on your phone before you can proceed.  a burst up will appear on your device's screen.  Just grant the permission by tapping Yes.

Copy the extracted image files (system.img and vbmeta.img) to the installed ADB folder on your computer.

Once the files are placed in the folder, use the command below to flash the 'vbmeta' image and press enter:

fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img

Now clean the system by typing the following command:

Finally, update the system image file containing Android Q via the command below:

flash system fastboot system.img

Once the system image file is updated, perform a factory reset of your device with the command below.  It will remove all your data.

Now, restart your device in normal mode by typing the following command:

Your device will boot up in 10-15 minutes and you're done.

Now, you have successfully installed Android Q GSI on your device.
