## How to Install Screensavers from Windows XP on Windows 11 - Guide

If you like nostalgia and want to experience some of the glory days of Windows 95, 98, 2000, ME or XP, the simplest option is to install a screen saver package.  (screen saver) Microsoft classic In Windows 11, here it is how to install and use screen savers from 'old' Windows versions.

To install old screensavers on Windows 11, you must use an administrator account.  You will copy the files to the system directory C:WindowsSystem32, which is protected by Windows.  If you are not using an administrator account, you can switch to one temporarily.  Or, if you have access to another administrator account on the machine, you can grant administrator access to your account.

## How to    Install Vintage Screensaver Pack

First, visit the Internet Archive website and download this ZIP pack of 7 classic screensavers that come from classic Windows installations.  In the archive, you will find 10 screen saver (SCR) files in total, but three are screen savers that already exist in Windows 11. Here is a list of the old "new" files you will add:

3D FlowerBox: A colored cube turns into a flower shape and bounces.

3D Flying Objects: Choose from various 3D objects that bounce on the screen.

3D Maze (OpenGL): A textured 3D maze in first person.

3D tubes: 3D tubes appear randomly on the screen, filling it up.

Flying Windows: Similar to “Starfield” below, but Windows logos instead of stars.

Marquee: Type a phrase and it will scroll across the screen from left to right.

Starfield: Simulates flying through space at high speed.  One classic!

The ZIP file is called Windows XP and 98 Screensavers (1) .zip.  In the “Download Options” section of the Internet Archive page, click on the “ZIP” link.  Click “ZIP” to download the ZIP file.  Then open the Downloads folder and double-click the Windows XP and 98 Screensavers (1) .zip file.  In the Windows XP and 98 Screen Savers folder, click and drag (or press Ctrl + A) to select all SCR files with your mouse pointer.  Right click on the group of selected files and select “Copy”.

Select the files, right click and choose “Copy”.  Then open a File Explorer window and navigate to C:Windows.  Right click on the System32 folder and select “Paste” (the clipboard icon).  Right-click on System32 and select “Paste”.  Windows will extract and copy the SCR screensaver files to C:WindowsSystem32.  When finished, open the Start menu and search for “Screen Saver” and click on “Change Screen Saver” in the results.

Open Start, search for “Screen Saver” and click on “Change Screen Saver”.  A “Screen Saver Settings” window will open.  Use the drop-down menu to select the screensaver you want to use.  You can also preview any selected screensaver with "Preview" button.  Select a screensaver from the list.

After selecting the screensaver you want to use, enter a time in minutes in the “Wait” box and click “OK”.  When the set time expires, your screensaver will be activated automatically.  Afterwards, the screensaver will disappear as soon as you move the mouse or press a key on the keyboard.  It feels like the old days - the only thing missing is a CRT monitor.  Happy screen save!
