## How to Manage Mobile Data on Netflix - Guide

Video streaming can be exorbitant. What's more, some people would be more adept at limiting the use of service information to keep your wireless account from going crazy.

Fortunately, Netflix has an answer. The company offers a device through its administration that allows you to choose how the video will be transferred to your devices and, consequently, reduce the use of information. As Netflix points out, the higher the video quality, the more information you use. Also, if you're stressed about hitting the limit of your tiered data plan, you'll need to be aware of that.

This tutorial exercise will tell you the best way to find out how much information you are using in your mobile network and what to do if you are stressed with too much information.

## Controlling data usage on Netflix

Here are some simple yet effective ways to limit data usage on Netflix while streaming content. This will ensure that you have left enough data for emails and browsing after you finish. If you are using your mobile phone to watch shows and movies on Netflix, these tricks will help you keep track of data on Netflix.

## Set streaming video quality on Netflix

Netflix understands that not everyone has access to a fast Internet connection and that many people still use 2G/3G. That's why Netflix allows subscribers to stream their content in both standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD).

Something to think about. Watching Netflix for an hour on SD will consume about 1GB of data, and the same is 3GB for HD format. Also available is the Ultra HD (UHD) format, which consumes about 7GB of data per hour.

You can set your preference and choose the video quality you want to save data plan. Go ahead and log into your Netflix account in a browser. Click on the menu in the upper right corner of Your screen > Profile photo > Select account. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find playback settings in My Profile to change settings. You can choose low, medium or high. Here is a breakdown of data consumption based on the four available options:

Low will consume 0.3GB of data per hour

The medium will consume 0.7GB to 1GB of data per hour with SD quality

High will consume 3GB for HD and up up to 7GB of data for UHD quality

Auto Mode will determine your Internet speed and provide the best quality possible

Don't forget to click Save when done. Netflix admitted it could take a while up to 8 hours to reflect these changes in your account, so don't worry if you don't notice any change in streaming quality right away. If you are concerned about your data plan, select Low, which will stream Netflix in basic video quality with minimal data consumption.

These settings are profile dependent and you will have to repeat the process for each individual profile created in Netflix. You can also tell Netflix if you want to automatically play the next episode here. I selected autoplay here with high quality because I'm using Wi-Fi to stream Netflix.

## To manage Mobile Data on Netflix

Netflix understands that you're not always connected to a Wi-Fi network. That's why it gives you more options to manage mobile data in your mobile apps for Android and iOS. For the purpose of this guide I am using Android, but it also works on iOS.

Launch the Netflix app on your mobile and click the More tab in the lower right corner. Here you will find the application settings. Click on it. The first option you should see at the top is video playback settings. Once inside you will see a pop-up where you can choose to stream content using:

Wi-Fi only - You can stream content using Wi-Fi only

Save data - you can broadcast up up to 6 hours of content with 1GB of data

Maximum data - will consume up to 3GB of data for 20 minutes of streaming, depending on your network speed and device configuration

There is an Auto selector that will choose the best option for you. Netflix, on its help pages, notes that this should allow you to up to 4 hours of streaming per GB.

## Download to watch offline on Netflix

I only watch Netflix when I'm connected to a Wi-Fi network because it saves me mobile Dice. This is a viable solution as I usually work from home. But this is not an option available to everyone all the time.

Like a few days ago when I was traveling, I downloaded entire episodes of Agents of Shield in advance so I could watch Daisy detonate while I traveled back to my hometown.

The best solution to save your shows and movies in advance while you have wifi. Sometimes even downloading episodes via Wi-Fi isn't an option. What if you forget to download via WiFi or just don't have access to one?

In that case, I recommend downloading episodes on your mobile using your data plan instead of direct streaming. No need to confuse here, streaming programs directly on Netflix will consume more data than downloading to watch offline.

The ability to download Netflix content and watch Netflix offline is only available at mobile devices. To try the Netflix download feature, go ahead to the Netflix app settings. There is a Download heading under which you can set the video quality of the content to be downloaded.

You can set it to Default and watch everything offline. Another benefit of watching offline is that you can go back and forth between scenes without recording additional data.

You may not see all the programs and movies available for download on Netflix to watch offline. Netflix is keeping some titles away from offline watching, yet this is a good data-saving option.

The best way to watch Netflix without compromising quality is using Wi-Fi, but if that's not possible, download episodes and movies and watch offline after setting a lower quality. Even if you don't have Wi-Fi access, use your data plan for downloading instead of streaming, as this will still consume less data.
