## How to Modify Google Drawings Transparency - Guide

It's almost perverse to expect a drawing tool to have photo editing capabilities. When the tool is from Google, however, nothing can stop us from being creative. Fortunately, Google regularly meets and exceeds our expectations. Cropping a photo or adjusting the transparency of images and shapes in Google Designs are examples of feature.

Drawings offer a variety of editing options, including sizing, color modifications, shadows and highlights, as well as customizable transparency. Shapes and images have multiple transparency options. Furthermore, it is buried in such a way that accessing and using it can be a challenge. This is where we will help you. In that tutorial, you will learn how to make images and shapes transparent in Google Drawings.

## Change the transparency of shapes in Google Designs

The above method for changing opacity (transparency) does not work for shapes. Here are the steps to adjust the transparency of shapes in Google Designs.

### make the border transparent

First, add your shape to the drawing. Shapes usually have a border around them. You need to start by making the border transparent. However, you can skip this step if you want the border to remain intact. To make the border transparent, click on the shape and press the border color icon (looks like a pencil) in the toolbar at the top. Press the Transparent option to make it fully transparent. You will notice that the border will disappear from the shape.

### Adjust shape transparency

Then, to adjust the transparency of the actual shape, click the fill color icon (looks like a paint bucket) in the top bar next to the border color icon.

There are now two ways to change the transparency of a shape.

Make the shape completely transparent while keeping the border To remove the color from the shape and make it completely transparent, click the transparent text below the color fill icon.

Note: Keep the border intact if you want to remove color from the shape and keep only the outline of the shape.

Make the shape slightly transparent

If you don't want to make the image completely transparent, but want to adjust the transparency level, click the custom text below the color fill icon.

Then adjust the transparency with the slider included in the pop-up window.up.up window. Save by clicking Ok.

## Reduce transparency in Google Docs

If you're drawing in a Google Docs document, it will provide less features compared to Google Drawings. One of the features what's missing are the formatting options for images that contain transparency. But that doesn't mean you can't change it. There is a workaround that allows you to change the transparency of an image. In case you're wondering about shapes, the feature exists and the customization method is the same as mentioned above for Google Designs. That is, you must use the custom option present below the color fill icon.

Change the transparency of images in drawings in Google DocsHere are the steps:

Step 1: Add an image to your drawing in Google Docs.

Step 2: Since most images are square / rectangular in shape, add a rectangular shape in the top toolbar. If your image has a different shape, select it from the shape list.

Step 3: Draw the shape over your image. The image will be hidden if the shape is added over it.

Step 4: With the shape selected, click the border color icon followed by Transparency to make the border transparent.

Step 5: Then click on the fill color icon and choose a white color for the shape.

Step 6: Click the color fill icon again and click the Customize option.

Step 7: Adjust the transparency with the slider on the Transparency option. Click OK to save changes.
