## How to    Open ZIP files on your iPhone and iPad

Compressing large files into ZIP files is useful if you need to share them over the Internet.  Not only is the file compression storage efficient, but it also makes it up for faster file transfers. Here it is how to open a ZIP file on your iPhone or iPad (this procedure also works for TAR files):

Open the Files app on your iPhone or iPad.

Browse to the ZIP file you want to open.  If you downloaded the file from the Internet, select Downloads.

Tap on the ZIP file to open it.  Your iPhone will immediately begin unzipping the ZIP file.

You will see a new folder with an identical name in the same folder as the ZIP file.  Keep in mind that you can change the folder name if you like.  Just tap and hold the folder, select Rename from the menuup menu, enter your new name and tap Done on your keyboard to finish.

Tap on the new folder to view the contents of the ZIP file.

## How to    Open received ZIP files in WhatsApp or Mail application

If the ZIP file was sent to you via WhatsApp, Mail or another messaging app, you would first have to save it in the Archives app.  Here's how you should proceed:

Open the respective messaging application.

Tap on the ZIP file.

hit the Share icon, which looks like an arrow coming out of the box.

Choose Save to files on pop-up and select where you want the ZIP file to be saved.

Tap Save.

To open the ZIP file, follow the steps in the section above using the Files application.
