One of Signal's main selling points is its ability to provide secure communication across different platforms.  In addition to encrypting messages, the Signal app also has an auto-delete feature that protects messages from prying eyes.  Prior to the release of the Signal Private Messenger desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux, the Signal app was only available for mobile users and the outdated Chrome app which was the only way to use the secure messaging app on a computer or laptop.  With the introduction of the standalone app, users no longer need to install Chrome to use Signal on their computers.

## How to    Run Signal Messenger on Mac or Windows

You can follow the steps below to start using Signal on your laptop or computer.  As mentioned earlier, it could be a Windows machine or a MacBook.

Download Signal Desktop from their website.

Install the downloaded Signal Desktop on your machine.  You can follow the installation file instructions to download the application on your Windows laptop or computer.  If it's running on macOS, you'll need to move Signal to the Applications folder.  Linux users need to follow the onscreen instructions to configure the Signal repository and install your package.

Once installed, link Signal Desktop to your phone scanning the QR code available on your laptop or computer screen.  To scan the QR code, you need to go to Signal

Settings > tap Linked Devices and tap the plus sign (+) on your Android phone or Link New Device on iPhone.

You can now choose a name for your linked device in your phone.
