## How to Send Inline Replies in Messages on iPhone/iPad - Guide

For years, Apple's messaging app didn't have a useful way to manage related "threads" in the same conversation.  Starting with iOS 14, you can now add inline replies to a conversation.  Inline replies only work in conversations with other iMessage users – the option is not available when you are texting a non-iPhone user.  However, you can use inline replies in two-person or group chats.  If you are a regular iMessage user, you may have encountered a situation where you want to reply to a specific message sent by someone and make it clear that this is the message you are replying to.  That's where inline replies come in, which let you specify a message to reply to from Messages on iPhone and iPad.

Inline message replies are useful for all iMessage conversations, but can be especially useful for group chats or when you want to capture up in a conversation or reply to a specific message from a while ago.  If you haven't tried the iMessages online reply feature yet, read on to see how the feature works on iPhone and iPad.  In iOS 14, Apple added several new features to your native messaging app, including the ability to send inline replies to specific messages that appear in a group chat conversation.  The great thing about inline replies is that you can reply to a specific person's message in the conversation and then view all the replies to the message in the full group conversation or separately in a new conversation.

## How to    Use Inline Replies in Messages on iPhone and iPad

Open the Messages app on your iPhone or iPad.

Select a group conversation or any other discussion topic you want to respond to.

Press and hold the specific message you want to reply to.

Select Reply and enter your text.  Click submit when ready.

Your answer is posted and an additional view is created.  That way, you can more easily follow this subconversation.

The total number of replies to a message is displayed in the conversation home screen.

### How to delete answers online

If you reconsider and want to edit an inline reply, your only option is to delete it and rewrite it in the edited version.

Press and hold the inline answer you want to delete.

Select More.

Tap Delete.

Choose the responses you want to delete.

Tap the trash can, bottom left corner of the screen.
