## How to Sign Out of iMessage on iPhone/iPad - Guide

When you send messages from your iPhone, some messages appear in blue bubbles, while others appear in green bubbles.  Blue messages use iMessage, Apple's proprietary messaging service, while green messages are standard SMS or MMS messages.  If you disable iMessage, all your messages will be sent as standard messages and will appear in green.  So what if you haven't turned off iMessage, but your messages are still green?  This is an iMessage not working issue, and Apple doesn't exactly make it easy to figure out what's wrong.

If you are having problems with iMessage when sending messages to a single contact, the problem is probably on your side.  On the other hand, if iMessage doesn't work with any of your contacts and you know they use iMessage, then the problem is probably with your device.  Then tap Send & Receive.  Even if you have iMessage turned on, it may not be turned on for a specific number.  This is easy to verify.  On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings and scroll down to Messages.  Sounds obvious, but make sure the iMessage slider is enabled here.

Access the Settings app on the iPad.

Scroll down and find “Messages”.

The right pane of the iPad will show the iMessage activation options and the option to change the iMessage address.

Tap the Send and Receive option.

To leave your current iMessage session, tap the blue Apple ID.  And the popup Windows will show Exit/Change Location and Cancel option.

Tap “Exit”.

Other change options achieved by address are also just below your Apple ID.  Want to use another Apple ID for iMessage, then tap “Add an email..”

Add a new email address and send a verification email to the address Tap the (i) icon.

Go to Messages.

Choose Messages.

Preferences and click Accounts.

Select your iMessage account and click Sign Out.
